Mastiffguy65
I'm new to modding and looking at making several mods for fallout 4 but I'm wondering about what specifically requires permission and if I create something that does the same thing as another mod how it all works. For example: if I want to change the damage type of the flamer to fire damage but another mod already does that do I need to ask them even though I didn't copy them because there's only one way to do that. I'm not talking about quests or full weapon mods just very basic changes that are easy to make. I just want to make sure I won't get banned because my mod and another share a change
showler
You need permission to USE someone else's work. You do not need permission to make your own take on their idea or a generic idea. Pretty much if you aren't using a model/texture/script/whatever that they created as the basis for your mod, you don't need permission. With the one exception that if your mod is meant to modify their mod then you do need permission even if you don't directly use anything they created.
