DDS file editor for Mac?

Recommended Posts

Ive been enjoying Starfield and many of the mods for that game lately, and Id like to try my hand at texture modding. The game uses DDS files for textures. Im very good with Photoshop, which is the program Id use to create my custom textures, but I need to be able to export them in DDS format thats compatible with the game. Does anyone know of a Mac-compatible Photoshop plug- in that would allow this? Or barring that, is there a free or reasonably priced program I could use to open, edit, and save the DDS files?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Fnordware has a DDS plugin for Mac: https://fnordware.blogspot.com/2014/09/dds-plug-in-for-after-effects-and.html

The plugin does not support some of the newer DDS formats that Starfield uses (e.g. BC7), and I don't know if it works with current versions of Photoshop.

Microsoft's DirectXTex library should build on Mac/Linux, but the included sample programs are Windows-only.

Intel's DDS plugin for Photoshop appears to be Windows-only.

Does Gimp work on Mac???

There is indeed a MacOS download for it -- https://www.gimp.org/downloads/

I've only ever used the GIMP on Windows and Linux, though.
