The Onedrive Issue is a still a massive problem.

You guys need to put a warning out in Vortex that this is an ongoing issue.  My work has just been disrupted majorly due to my onedrive folder being filled and unless you come and visit these forums you will have no idea that its going to occur.

Beyond that having carried out the recommend fix in full, Im unable to load my saves due to Starfield stating that there is a version problem with my them.

Simple solution.  Just go into your Windows 11 App settings and uninstall OneDrive.  I did that and problems solved.  Also updated Vortex and extensions.

no-one should have to uninstall anything in order to allow vortex to manage a game.

make sure both vortex and the starfield extension are up to date.

Microsoft shouldn't be forcing it's OneDrive down its users throats who don't want to use it or choose to disable it.  I had no issue with OneDrive on Windows 10, but something changed with Windows 11 and its very difficult to manage or disable OneDrive and it comes on at the worst time.  It's not just Vortex and Starfield that OneDrive messes with.  It's all my other games that place game files in Documents.  Sims3, Sims4 EveOnline, and countless other games all which have nothing to do with Vortex.  As a Gamer, I have no use for OneDrive on my Gaming PC, especially when it tries to back up all my GBs of gamefiles when I don't want to, so I chose to just uninstall a feature I have no use for and which creates so many issues.  Problem solved for all my games.

i don't disagree with you - but - an end user should not be obligated to disable chunks of their OS in order for vortex to manage a game. that is a fundamental of developing code that goes back to the first systems.

I didn't say it should be.  The Vortex updates work for me and the uninstall of OneDrive works for all my other games it causes issues for.

you literally advised to disable one drive as a "solution". its not a solution. its an ugly hack that forces the user into doing something they really don't need to do.

and remember - not all users are technically adept - so doing this, while okay for perhaps you and i, may cause someone else not as tech savvy even more problems.

hence - keep vortex and that problematic extension up to date is the easiest thing to do for the vast majority of people who literally just want to play a game.

ugly hacks are fine if they work for you. advertising them as the solution isn't okay. the version of the extension that was rolled out and caused issues in and around one drive doing what it's designed to do and backing up huge chunks of the game (remember the tech savvy bit above?) was very, very far from okay. that got rolled back very quickly and was resolved in a later iteration - hence - keep it updated.

It's not a "Hack".  It's right there in App settings as an option  .... modify, uninstall.
Looks like a "Feature" to me.

I mentioned it as a simple option,  but also said to make sure Vortex and extension were fully updated, which a lot of users fail to check.

We don't believe that users should have to choose OneDrive or modding. It's generally a bad idea to have OneDrive enabled while trying to mod, but some users want the backup enabled.

This is why the Starfield extension now has the junction fix as an opt-in optional feature.
