Currently (re) playing Morrowind... any comments and/or mod suggestions?

I love this game but haven't played it for a while. So, I spent yesterday looking at various mods to improve its appearance and to even out combat - I want to use a bow - and today I've been playing it. After all these years it is still very, very appealing and immersive. It's really lovely to  find it's just as good as I remember.

So, if anyone else wants to reminisce... or to say what they've done to the game the latest time round then please share. 🙂 I'm using MO2 so can set up profiles for different experiences...

I don't know if you are using OpenMW, but with the latest release (0.48) adding mods is much easier. what I did coming back to he game after a long time was watch some youtube videos to see how the graphics have improved in particular, then installed some mods from one of the modlists on modding-openMW.com. It is beautiful now.

@blackrat99 - I have used OpenMW - I thought it came packaged with Synaptic but I can't see it so maybe I just downloaded. I really must put it on this machine and give it another go. Morrowind is incredibly stable on Linux. It's brilliant. Tamriel Rebuilt is beautiful. Some of the settlements are breath-taking.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll now do something about it... 😀

OpenMW installed. Sadly, I can't use my current saves on it as they're in another format. Looks like converting them might just give me glitches further down the line. However, my old PC has saves from OpenMW from 2021 and I've been able to match them fairly well where I am in the main quest so all is well.

I'm impressed with OpenMW - I'd forgotten just how good it is and obviously it's come a little way since 2021. I haven't added any mods yet though. I've linked it to my Steam install this time round - last time I made a fresh install using the CD's from my original copy of the game...

Thanks again for the suggestion.

If anyone else is replaying this and is fed up with the trek up the East Coast then there's a wonderful east coast pack guar which fits in really well.

I've done that trek many times and after a couple of trips I really think catching some transport wouldn't be a bad idea.

I also found this Balmora house which fits in so well I can't resist it...

You should notably use MGE XE and Tamriel Rebuilt.

Have tried both. Very impressed - particularly with TR - some of the settlements are breath-takingly beautiful. I found it hard to find my way about though and returning to the mainland was really tricky. I don't have the best sense of direction in the world either in reality or virtually.

The problem with TR is that it doesn't entirely work with OpenMW (apparently) - I haven't tried that for myself though. And OpenMW is sooooo easy to run on Linux and it doesn't need a mod organizer. The way it can be modded is really really a breeze so I'm a bit addicted to it as a solution for MW. Thanks for the suggestions though. It's nice to get a chance to discuss the mods and the alternatives. 😉

Now modding and playing Oblivion. I'd forgotten how much fun those gates were...

I've started back working on an old Morrowind mod

I had a look to see if you'd done any already but you''re all Fallout! I can't get on with that game. So, I shall wish you all the best with MW instead! 😀
