Barbisol1968
Hey thrill seekers... Looks like I might have to re-install everything. Recent patch just hosed me. Does anyone know if there is a way to backup ship designs to somewhere so they are not lost? Thanks! Dave
HeyYou
That capability doesn't exist yet... Unfortunately. I would love to be able to save ship designs......
LarannKiar
This seems to be a quite popular topic. Technically, it's not impossible of course but the class (C++ object class) of spaceships is BGSGenericBaseForm (GBFM) which is a new one to the Creation Engine, as far as I know. Or at least it wasn't in Fallout 4. There are additoinal classes for the templates and the leveled forms. As GBFM is new, modders and reverse engineers can't rely on knowledge based on earlier games.. I took a look at the ships' data structure myself and currently it's just a bunch of unknown variables. However, many of them will be easier to interpret once the Creation Kit is released. Before that, one would waste a lot of time while working on this project. The process of decoding will be less tedious and boring if we have the CK, which is expected to be released next year. So it's not far.. Next December is also "next year". My guess is we'll see microtransactions the Creation Club first, and they'll spend some time selling all the skins that they rejected for the game release first. Then, once they've got the "market" ironed out, they'll release the CK. Remember, this isn't the old Bethesda, this is the new, improved Microsoft Bethesda. Wouldn't be surprised at all if the CK uses some sort of subscription model. Yeah yeah, I'm cynical, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if the CK is out before next summer. That would REALLY piss me off. Might be enough to make me stop buying their games. After all, it isn't Beth we are supporting any more, it is Microsloth. MadeUpName92
We need something like "Faceripper" . Shipripper! Your ships are in your saves right. It's easy to backup your saves. You buy a Shieldbreaker, you modify it but don't rename it. You start a new game and buy a Shieldbreaker. Then you rip the modded version from your old save and paste it into your new save. You don't need to decode the data, just copy paste it. Edited December 17, 2023 by MadeUpName92
aurreth
Except the save file format is entirely new, which means it has to be decoded to locate the ship data.
