Indio21
Hello, I am building my LO currently and noticed I am running out of HD space. Upon investigation it seems I have mods being stored in my C drive/steam /steamapps/common/sse/data AND in User/AppData/Roaming/Vortex/etc. What is happening. Do I need both areas for the mods or can I delete one. I have about 50 gbs in steam/sse and for some reason about double in Users. Anyone know what is going on? Thanks EDIT: Just to note, the downloads are stored on a different drive Edited February 26 by Indio21
showler
If you are using the default deployment type then the files in your Data folder are not real files. They are just pointing to the real file and don't take up any significant space. Unfortunately Windows mis-reports them as taking up space when they don't. So this means I will be able to exceed the amount of my drive by the difference of shown to actual. How should I proceed with this as I am not yet done with my LO build and, as windows displays, running out of C drive room. Thank you EDIT: I missed that, "the default deployment type"......is there another way to do it that would help. Thanks Edited February 26 by Indio21
showler
You should be able to go over the apparent size of the drive. Other methods won't make any difference. You'll still be using the same amount of space. And you should be very careful about over-filling the C drive as it can have negative performance impact on your entire system. Indio21
Yes, that is exactly what I am concerned about. Trying to stay beneath the 80% mark, at least that is what I always knew for safety. Do all MM work this way? Does MO2 handle storage for mods the same as vortex? Thanks
showler
Pretty much. The only real difference is that MO2 needs to be running in order for the "fake" files to be created, so it needs to run in the background while the game is running. I mean, the problem isn't the mod manager. It's that you seem to want to install more mods than you have room for.
Indio21
I'm not sure how that could be possible if I am loosing half to virtual nothing. If I installed them manually I don't think I'd have the same problem. I know then they wouldn't be doubled. If this is the case I might as well toss vortex and do it myself. I loose double the space for every mod to have an auto installer. Something not making sense. I will have to look into it further. Thanks
Solution showler Posted February 26 Solution Share Posted February 26 You're not actually losing that space. It's a false report by Windows. If you have a 1TB drive and you install 200GB of mods you should be able to put 1.2TB on the drive as far as Windows is concerned.
Indio21
Ok, guess I will continue on then as I was going to start looking into MO2. Not sure how safe I feel doing it. I think windows will still treat it as full, but will see. I hope not as I am at 600 plus plugins currently and a ton of time into learning the workings of vortex. What a waste it would be.
