which copy of mods do I need to edit?

Recommended Posts

Modding GOG Witcher 2 EE on Windows 10 PC, using Vortex 1.9.12.

I want to set the minimap to pointing North, which involves adding a couple of lines to the following script: base_scripts/game/gui/guihud.ws.
I am using the Enhanced Mod Compilation, which has a modded version of base_scripts, so I just want to edit guihud.ws within this mod, using Gibbed Red Tools to unpack and repack, and Notepad++ to edit.
Thing is, I have found 3 copies of base_scripts:
1. One in The Witcher 2/Cooked PC - I assume this is Vortex's deployment file
2. One in User/AppData/Roaming/Vortex/Witcher2/mods - I assume this is Vortex's staging file
3. An undocumented 3rd one in The Witcher 2/Cooked PC/Cooked PC - I have no idea what this is. Cooked PC folder and everything in it was created solely by Vortex.

My questions are:
1. which copy of base_scripts do I need to edit, and
2. which of the 3 options ("Save (use deployed file)", "Revert (use staging file)" and "Use newer file") do I need to select in the External Changes Dialog in order for the mod to work in the actual game?

Thank you
