Hard to imagine a 3rd party encounter making him more likeable than a 1st person encounter.

I can understand why it  might be hard to imagine *laughs* so I'll explain why he becomes an interesting and likeable character in that Nuka Ride mod. But the explanation has spoilers, so I will put it in spoilers.

The basic premise of Nuka Ride is that you're a weak character who just came out of the vault, and you get invited to go to Nuka World to help found a porn studio run by that region's raiders. It spawns a series of adventures and moral dilemmas and also gradually sets up a mixed bag of fame/notoriety among the citizens of the commonwealth. At one point you are going with a friend you made to Bunker Hill to help her get tattoo equipment for her so that she can start a Tattoo shop.

While you're waiting, you are invited to talk to an old man whom you, the player, know is Father, but whom your character has no clue is her son. You have a conversation with him in which he's tormented at the idea his mother is a porn actress. It's a very nuanced and touching conversation, and the first time you meet him.

When you return to your friend to try the tattoo equipment, there's something wrong with it, so she needs to step away from you for a moment. During her absence, you are kidnapped and taken to an insititute-like laboratory where two scientists question you while you are restrained.

Depending on your answers, you may outright be killed at this point. But if your answers are not those of the shallow minded bimbo they think you are, you can win one of the two scientists into wanting to save you. Their original plan when they kidnapped you is to replace you with a synth replica of yourself who will infiltrate the commonwealth and kill everyone, but their questions are intended to perfect the final programming of the synth before they kill you and replace you.

If you did win over one of the scientists, they end up killing themselves, and you can break free and explore the facility until you find your synth replica, your "Sister."

She wakes up, and you can talk her into breaking free with you, which is of course necessary as you are still restrained and cannot fight.

I made this film of the meeting, but while it has no nudity, it has skimpy attire, so I age restricted the film. You would need to have/make a Flickr login if you wish to see it.

Once your Sister kills her 40 brothers (hostile synths), you are met at the end by the same old man you met at Bunker Hill, and he states that they were watching these two scientists because they suspected them of being too radical. He takes Sister away to be reprogrammed into a normal woman with free will and promises you that he will return her to you when the changes are complete. You are then freed and sent back to Bunker Hill where your friend is exasperated with you thinking that you went off for half a day with your new sugar daddy, not believing you that you were kidnapped by scientists.

Much later Sister visits you at your apartment, and you have the opportunity, based on your answers in the conversation, to embrace her as a true Sister and friend. Sister can join you in the Golden Globes Studio as a fellow actress, and if you accept that, she is also included in a commercial you film together for The Brotherhood of Steel, a commercial in which you slander synths, and both of you brag about the racial purity of BoS soldiers and how terrible synths are.

Later, again at your apartment, you have a conversation with Sister (a synth) about how she's perceived by humans. The first time I play through this mod (I've done it possibly seven times over the last few years as the mod gets bigger and bigger), it was all I could do not to cry in real life. The Sister character is so beautifully written, and your conversation with her is both uplifting and nuanced. There are obvious parallels between you, who is disdained by the general public for being a porn actress, and Sister, who would be hated by anyone who knows she is a synth.

The reason Father character is made more likeable in Nuka Ride mod is that he is written to be a true human being, a complex character who is both your son who longs for his mother and a scientist who is running the institute.

In the vanilla game, he is indeed just a scientist who is kidnapping humans and replacing them with replicas. But with this mod, he is primarily your son, and you don't know it.

Thank you for taking the effort to write all this up I (and i hope others as well) very much appreciate it. It shows you care about that fictional world of ours.

I have never played Nuka ride (well I tried once but it was too buggy back then, I am sure it is much improved now).

I rarely play a female character, but when I do I mostly build a young hottie prancing around the wilderness , experiencing all sorts of erotic adventures .

I found that I am in between the two groups of mods often published on LL. One group is too extreme for me to be plausible, and one group is too "light" and polite to be plausible to me.

And as a result, I only play them until they go (in my humble opinion) off the rails (Commonwealth slavers with the tatooting all over and hair shaving and even amputating an arm, I mean who would do that, especially , morality aside, if they want to make money off their beauty!!) and the others are too mild for me to be plausible (Raider Pet should have a few more teeth in it, my opinion and some more scenes closer to the beginning of "Commonwealth Slavers". barbarous continent was a lot of fun, though a bit "light" but in that Universe that Island is not so unbelievable with men scheming all sorts of ways to "bag" pretty girls.

For Nate due to his backstory his agency in the game world makes sense ( as a hardened and highly decorated Combat vet he is almost certainly a master of power armor and all kinds of weaponry as well as generally resourceful). But nothing in Noras background has prepared her for this and having her morph into a hard core wasteland operator at the drop of a hat while at the same time being saddled with a female body evolved over a couple million years, not for performance but fertility, well, its taking away from believability.

So I am in the middle between those 2 extremes and as a result i rarely play the LL mods that are intended for female characters and stick with a male, which fits the game's design better IMO.

For example would women even be able to reach the hand controls with their arms in power armor? womens arms are significantly shorter than mens, the power armors dont appear to have any obvious and major adjustability's in them.

Same with shoulder width, Power Amor movement joints push the believability for the rotating joints even for the much wider male shoulders to the breaking point as it is. But female? No, not not happening,  Its too jarrring a misalignment to ignore, even during a game, her rotator cuff would be absurdly misaligned with the power armors shoulder joints in a way that simply cannot be explained away and in PA she could do little more but wave her arms in a plane (assuming she could reach the servo controls for them at all).

So it really breaks my immersion to wear power armor when female and so I very rarely play female character, since i love power armor, also I dont like the thought of such beauties exposed to Radiation and the dangers of the wasteland.

Based on console entries it is clear to me that it was "father" who is almost great responsible for the more evil direction the Institute has taken.

He was clearly promoted well beyond his abilities for some reason and this is wreaking havoc on the Institute. Also a form of revenge if you will albeit inadvertent.

He acts as if he initially intends to replace all people with synths. He loves synths like his own children. From many of his monologues it becomes clear that he does not believe in humanity at all. Humanity, represented in fo4, has no future. For 200 years, people not only failed to create a primitive community similar to at least the Germanic communities of the 2nd-5th centuries, but did not even bother to bury bones in the areas in which they themselves live. I don't know what the BGS storyline was, but I see an irreversible DNA mutation. Synths based on pre-war DNA with the Father's point of view may be closer to pre-war humanity than mutants with radiation-damaged DNA.Possible theory...🙂

By the way, the initial concept of Bethesda before the release had a large scope of the Institute. I don’t remember 2014 or 2013, the concept art album fo4 was released. I don't have it, but I watched a review on YouTube. Initially, in fo4, the Institute was supposed to become a much more powerful structure. The Institute was supposed to be in complete control of the Commonwealth and not go into hiding. The Institute had the Sky Hunter transport. Instead of Coursers there should have been Hunters with flying exoskeletons. Armed with sample capture nets and nerve agent gas. Judging by the drawings, Bethesda artists seemed to be inspired by the Blame! manga. Unfortunately, during the production of the game, insurmountable difficulties arose due to the deadline and weak havok capabilities. Thus the Institute was reduced from an evil robot empire to a small community of scientists.🙂

Exiting!

Watched a few episodes and absolutely loving it thus far.

The eye for detail is amazing, the number of references immense. Even some of the sound effects are straight from the game. They truly made it with a lot of love for Fallout 3 & 4.

I don't care about some of the 'lore' issues, so just watching & smiling 🥰

I didn't like the details of the characters a little. They are scenically groomed. They all look like they're taking part in a post-apocalypse in between pedicures and hair treatments. But overall everything is ok. Not a bad show at all.

Well, to be fair most of the first few episodes involve developing backstories for the very people that probably should look like that anyway.

Isn't until you get further into the series where you start to see the wastelanders in as Deacon would say "wastelander camo".

At first wow guys, I didn´t expect so much replies in that thread.

RoNin I watched all 8 parts. Awesome! I agree with you. The vault details, power armor, Pip Boy 1:1! I thought, let´s play Fallout again. Watched episode 8, then real close to the end I saw....................IT (no spoilers). OMG! I want Season 2 YESTERDAY lol! You´ll understand, if you  see it.

I admit folks, I was real skeptical to this series, bordering on hostile as I expected the source material to be butchered based on the trailers and the articles written based on them.

One thing that had bothered me for example,  was one reviewer , who presumably gleaned his "knowledge" from Beth press kit, wrote in a review the BoS is "dedicated to providing Law and Order in the Wasteland".

Which is of course nonsense, but  ultimately it turned out to be not an official new-lore by Beth and amazon, but merely his misinterpretation of the series.

So I saw all episodes and they were actually quite good.

Ultimately quality always wins over even the most hardened sceptics.

The key was they didn't try to do too much.

3 character arcs and a couple of underlying plot lines.

That and they didn't try to impose 21st century ideology on a 23rd century post-apocalyptic world.

-----

Next series give us a little more Dogmeat please.
