Help for a proud New Vegas player that here is a mere noob

I know, probably is full of post like this, i've seen beginners guides, but i really don't know what to do.

I always played New Vegas and know that i finally decided to try Fallout 4 mods (I played it only on console before)  i'm really confused.

I use vortex, i've tried to install several mods like American Rising 2, Start Me up, rockin' Red Rocket, some armour and clothing mods, but nothing seems to work except for one mod: this black retexture for Hancock suit https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/27374

I've enabled mods of course, and for the rest i'm not sure of what i should do. On New Vegas, this was enough. And the fact that the retexture for Hancock work made me even more confused.

Please, somebody help me

Unfortunately, "but nothing seems to work" doesn't give much information as to what the problem is. If you haven't setup Vortex for modding FO4 (Fallout 4) then that would be your first step. Here is a guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2818521483. At the very least you will need to download and install F4SE (Fallout 4 Script Extender) and launch FO4 through it (meaning you run F4SE and it starts FO4 for you). Here is another guide using MO2 (Mod Organizer 2) instead of Vortex: https://themidnightride.moddinglinked.com/. The choice of which to use, MO2 or Vortex, is personal preference. Just DO NOT use both (MO2/Vortex) at the same time.

Hi, when you write that the black coat for Hancock works I would assume that you made the neccessary ini-changes to enable FO4 mods at all. Probably the same like in New Vegas. The FO4 script extender is needed for many mods, but not for all. So at least mods that don't need F4SE should work. So could check two things. When you start your game (through F4SE or Fallout4.exe) and enter the main menu you should see a category called "Mods". If so you can click on it and on load order and see whether your mods are listed there. When the mods are activated the check boxes are checked. Second you can look into "C:\Users\*your username*\AppData\Local\Fallout4" and check that there is a file called "plugins.txt". In this file you should find entries of your mods and check whether they are activated. Activated mods have a "*" (without the quotes) in front of the name. If they don't have you could try to add the "*" yourself.

Can't help with Vortex.

With MO2 it's about as simple a blind chimpanzee finding a banana.

1)  Activate the mod

2)  Make sure you do any load order adjustments if necessary.

That is it.
