Why doesn't LOOT have a fixed Load Order?

Unlike BOSS which has a fixed Load Order, LOOT seems to sort differently every time. Is it really safe to change Load Order in the middle of a game?

BOSS is still the recommended tool for Oblivion. LOOT works better with new mods, so it's better for Skyrim and later games.

Whether it's safe? Well presumably you're running it because you've changed your mod list, so even BOSS would wind up changing the load order.

What I meant was that BOSS will sort in a fixed order every time. For example, in this order: Mod A, D, K, M, B. Every time you sort it will sort in this order.

LOOT on the other hand throws around mods and sorts differently every time. First time you sort you might get this order: A, D, K, M, B, the next time you sort you might get this order: D, A, M, K, B, the third time you sort might get this order: A, D, M, K, B and so on. Is this really safe?

It depends on the mods you're using. Oblivion uses modified date for load order and last mod loaded wins, so you may wind up with mods not overwriting other mods like you intended. LOOT uses heuristics rather than a defined mod list, so you'll get varying results. Skyrim doesn't use dates for load order.

A good rule of thumb might be:  If you play an antique game you should use an antique load ordering system.   Heuristics sounds futuristic, like they are anticipating what might happen with an unknown combination of mods.

Oh yeah?!!!  Are you forgetting that other Oblivion posters of the past have touted the superiority of Loot?  Just because you are getting closer to Grandma Shirley's age does not forgive... what was I talking about?

You do realize you quoted yourself there, right?

Yes, Aaron.  It was supposed to be humorous.  Just pretend it was by Sheogorath and it involved cheese.

Please explain how can BOSS be recommended if it does not update it's masterlist?
