Almost all of my stuff is in custom containers, and all of my settlements have modded decoration (sorry, vanilla stuff are UGLY , doesn´t have a matching collor palette and no match in decor style). I wasn't able to remove my stuff from these containers, and now I have to open the game to do so. Honestly, I don't feel like uninstalling the mods...I took too long to make every settlement and houses pretty and functional. I 've managed to switch the Steam configurations to update the game only when launched, and disabled the downloads while playing. These steps are enough to prevent the game update? I can't find the appmanifest_377160.acf txt, here is a similar document with this name, but not located in the subfolders were specified in this topic (the content is also different). If I quit steam or disable my internet would avoid the literal fallout in my save ? Or should I cry for months while waiting the patches for the mods ? What should I do ? The steps on page 1 worked for me. If you can't find the manifest (appmanifest_377160.acf), maybe you have installed it elsewhere on another partition? Once you find the manifest, do the steps on page 1 (while Steam is not running, make sure you choose Exit and not just close the window). Also check (before making the manifest read only) that the following flags matches: "appid" "377160" "name" "Fallout 4" "StateFlags" "4" "UpdateResult" "0" "BytesToDownload" "33393870416" "BytesDownloaded" "33393870416" "BytesToStage" "37409240201" "BytesStaged" "37409240201" "AutoUpdateBehavior" "1" "AllowOtherDownloadsWhileRunning" "0" "ScheduledAutoUpdate" "0" The Bytes fields just need to match it's neighbor. I've read through this thread ten times, and everyone is talking about depots, changing this to that, etc. Can someone please explain in plain English how to do this? I really don't want to screw this up, but I can't even understand what people are talking about. The worst part is knowing that Steam will update my game any day now because the stupid thing auto-updates after a certain amount of time. Here's the biggest issue I'm having. I don't know how to check which one I installed. Also, I don't know what I need to do on here. All I see is a bunch of numbers and links. What am I supposed to click? What am I looking for? What am I supposed to do? I swear, I haven't been this frustrated since I had to downgrade SSE myself because the person who made the Downgrader Patch never updated it. In case you haven´t been able to solve the problem yet, I´ll try to help you make it clearer cause I had no idea at first either. Now, I´m sorry if my english is a little strange, is not my first language. First of all, remember to Close Steam before doing this 1-First make sure to have your game set to only update when you launch it through steam 2-Make sure your appmanifest (in the steamapps folder) is NOT set to read only. This is what your file should look like when you open it in notepad 3-Then in the steamdb page provided in the link you wil need to find every single depot (marked in red) in your appmanifest and copy paste their id (marked in green) from steamdb to your document. Not all of them changed (but if you open the links it will show you the changes and you can see that the old number should match with the one you already have. Just need to replace it with the new one. That´s it. Save your file and set it back to Read Only. DISCLAIMER. The game still shows "update required" in my steam, but probably I screwed up the first time. If you just launch it through FO4SE and have steam set to only update when launch it should be fine. But just in case I recommend you make a backup folder of your entire game files if you have enough space. H3Nutcracker
Adding this cause I finally managed to trick steam into thinking we had updated, thamks to all the people who tried this an posted their results, I had to try two different things from two different authors so thanks to both of them. Here is what I did: Inside the appmanifest_377160.acf change this following lines: (Please make sure to do this while steam is CLOSED, not just closed windows, It must not be running on your machine at all at the moment) 1- "StateFlags" (mine was the 5th line) I changed it from "6" to "4" 2-A little further down you´ll find 4 lines that I also changed "BytesToDownload" changed its value to "0" "BytesDownloaded" also changed value to "0" "BytesToStage" also set it to "0" "BytesStaged" yes, also set it to "0" 3-Save your file and set it to Read Only again Now when you open Steam it should show the game as updated with the green play button. I did this and my game works, but just keep in mind that I always launch it through FO4SE 1
omegalightcannon
If the game has updated before doing any of this, is it necessary to copy still? Or should we just change it to "read only" to prevent further updating? For example: My steam version is updated to current (April 25th, 24). Depots are the newest versions as well. I want to install the .63 patch I have to roll back. If the depots are the newest ones needed to fool steam into thinking its current, I shouldn't have to copy anything yes? Rather just change the file to "read only", then install the .63 patch to roll back. Or should I install the patch first, THEN copy the new depots to prevent further updating? Thanks for any help you all can provide!
sattyre
Steam also has a setting to keep it offline. It means it can't download anything at that point, and will often force you to turn it on to verify whatever ? it wants. Once verified I always turn it back to offline mode again. I don't know if this will help anyone, but I thought it worth mentioning.
Grelot2004
Thank you guys, followed the manifest change but it kept wanting to update. "StateFlags" "4" did the trick for me :D

With many mods it was a bit time consuming but worth it as the entire procedure worked. I didn't really follow marnaz's update later (for me this shows on page 7 of the forum but your view could look different). I did make sure the acf file saved as "Only update when launched" per their suggestion. I did add in the step of saving the new version in a backup as well. The trick to this whole thing seems to be to get Steam to actually update the game so it clears as updated. Then, following these exact steps, you get the steamapps folder returned to its pre-update state with an appmanifest that is read only so will not enforce update. I will say when I opened Vortex I did not get any options. Everything looked okay and I did not have to address mod deployment manually (it possibly was doing it in the background?) or then, subsequently, choose "use newer files". I tried loading the game directly from Vortex as well as my pre-made link to f4se.exe and both work. I have all mods, the game continues where I left off. I've read that other ways to access this game allow you to block updates. It is sad that Steam does not. I have two games that are heavily modded and if I were faced with a situation where I have invested heavy (extreme) amounts of time modding and testing mods to make sure everything works, and tweaking and perfecting them, only to have that work totally 100% destroyed, I would not suck it up and play the game unmodded. I would uninstall it, delete the mods, and not play the game again. It was just too much work to be messing around with. Just make it optional... sheesh! Then hard restarted the steam app(right-click->exit on steam icon in system tray then oper the app again). Changing 6 to 4 finally did it. Thanks. It took me an hour of pouring through this thread.
