Your Vortex installation has been corrupted. This could be the result of a virus or manual manipulation. Vortex might still appear to work (Partially) but we suggest you reinstall it.

Hello,

I tried to reinstall Vortex several times, every time I open it I get this error. I have tried a clean installation after uninstalling everything, disabling my antivirus, and different drives. Still, it will not work. Posting to see if there's a solution.

Please and thank you 🙂

If you still get this after a reinstall, it probably means something on your PC is sabotaging Vortex and breaking the install.

This is very often poorly programmed anti-virus or security apps.

Any ideas what I should do to fix? uninstall any sort or security app? Trying not to do a full reset 😞

Whitelist Vortex in your antivirus, maybe, and reinstall again.  (How will depend on which antivirus you use, but here's how in Windows Defender.)

So I use Malwarebytes and white listed on both Malwarebytes and Window Defender (just in case.)

1. White listed Vortex app and Vortex-1-1-10-8-1710319525 install file.

2. I used revo uninstall and started the uninstall process with Vortex launcher

3. Scanned for remaining register and removed folders.

4. Restarted the computer

5. Run as admin to install Vortex-1-1-10-8-1710319525

I still get the same error. I am able to click ignore, and the manager opens (and as far I can tell works perfectly). I used it to play BG3 with mods. Not sure if this would help, I did have Vortex install maybe 6 or more months previously but uninstalled it. Now, when I reinstall it, I am getting this error. (also previously it was on my E: but now it's giving me the error regardless if I reinstall on my Cdrive or E:

This is half a year too late, but perhaps it'll help someone else. I notice that OP is using Revo Uninstall too. That was the cause of my "Your Vortex installation has been corrupted" error. Entirely my fault, because I used Revo too aggressively.

This is how I solved the corruption without reinstalling.

I got this error on Vortex Launch:

Installation corrupted

[Quit] [Ignore]

Press Quit. That will exit Vortex and keep your error log small. If you press Ignore, then it will be too large to be useful.

Open vortex.log in Notepad++ and scroll to the bottom of the file. If you check the timestamps, you only need to worry about the ones from your last launch attempt.

Here's what mine looked like:

Do you see all of those missing "rimworld" files? I knew instantly what had happened. A few months ago I removed Rimworld using its uninstall process. It looked like Rimworld (and its expansions) weren't fully and cleanly uninstalled, so I removed them with Revo Uninstaller a few days ago and I told it to be thorough (scrub the registry and any odd Rimworld files).

I've grown to trust Revo Uninstaller, so I didn't double check its work. I approved the files it wanted to delete. Evidently, it'd decided that Vortex's built-in Rimworld files were part of Rimworld's installation and needed to go. And that's why my Vortex installation was corrupted today.

I went to my Recycle Bin and recovered the game-rimworld folder.

Vortex now launches with no errors. Problem solved!

It took longer to make this post than to troubleshoot and fix the problem.

Good luck to y'all. And much love to the programmers for sending useful messages to the vortex.log file. ❤️
