Anyone who attempts to remove any creation club content that's in the data folder after the update will cause the game to be unplayable basically forcing the game to quit or crash instantly after launching.

That's interesting.. what if you remove the filenames of the CC content you'd like to remove from ..\Fallout 4\Fallout4.ccc? (It can be opened in a text editor, one line contains a filename of a CC content e.g. "ccOTMFO4001-Remnants.esl").

Or if you remove either or both the files "Fallout4.ccc" and "Fallout4IDs.ccc"? The latter contains the FormIDs of CC content.

I never tried that. I only tested the deletion of the files that begin with cc (short for creation club.) The gen alpha update makes this content permanent even if you haven't installed any creation club content but don't worry. As long as you didn't update the game or reverted it, it won't appear in the data folder. If you did delete those assets accidentally or not you have to reinstall the game (along with mods if you have some) and then check the data folder to see if it's there. My theory it's a fail safe for anyone who attempts to remove the permanent CC content within the game will result in the game to be unplayable. (sorry if I mis-typed anything, I'm just feeling sick this week.)

Furthermore, these are the contents affected as seen in Steam's update logs.

"9.  Free Creation Club Items. Enclave Remnants (New!), Enclave Weapon Skins, Enclave Armor Skins, Tesla Cannon, Hellfire Power Armor, X-02 Power Armor, Heavy Incinerator, Halloween Workshop (New!), Makeshift Weapon Pack (New!)."

It's also because these contents are free after the update.

There are 3 files that have to be deleted, CC - main.ba2, CC - texture.ba2, and CC.esl. Go into File Explorer and go to the drive you have FO4 installed in, then navigate to \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data   to delete them. I don't know about the new free mods, but you can do it too everything else.

If you wanted to delete the Hellfire power armor as an example:

ccBGSFO4044-HellfirePowerArmor - Main.ba2

ccBGSFO4044-HellfirePowerArmor - Textures.ba2

ccBGSFO4044-HellfirePowerArmor.esl

You would delete all of those.

I can be patient on the F4SE thing, the mods I consider most important don't need it. I'm basically just losing MCM functionality.

I'm upset that some of the CC content I paid for is free, without giving me CC credits or something similar. I already have about half of the CC content anyway. I wouldn't mind extra credits to finish my "Pip-Boy color schemes" collection.

I reinstalled the game after watching the Fallout series. After the next-gen update I had to go through my mods to see what still worked without FOSE. I'm actually OK with running just mods that don't use it, I think I got too dependent on FOSE, it was actually nice to have to trim down the mods. There's only a few mods that I would want back once the new FOSE in released.
