Xenobuzz
Hey all, I'm almost lvl 30 and am currently at The American Dream quest. I've done most of the side and unnamed quests and The Pitt is the only big thing I had left to do before proceeding to Broken Steel. However, it appears that a lack of smart programming has put me in an unsolvable situation. I found the Train Tunnel after I cleared out Paradise Falls back around lvl 20 or so and all the Slavers there are long dead. I freed the slaves and took the slave outfit, but later sold it or ditched it because it seemed worthless (little did I know it's a <snip> quest item). :wallbash: I've talked to Wehrner but he won't accompany me to the Train Tunnel because I don't have a slave outfit. I cannot activate the train cart nor I cannot walk down the tunnel. :wallbash: Prosper's hangin' out in front of Vault 101, but I don't have any speech options. He just keeps saying "Thank you again." :wallbash: Seems to me like I'm <Snip> three ways from Sunday here, and will have to start a whole character if I want access the Pitt. IMHO, it's pretty <snip> lazy & stupid programming to allow the player to sell an item that is a quest essential! :wallbash: At least the Nuka-Cola challenge doesn't have any pertinent rewards, so that one I'm ok with, but this is BULL<snip>. :verymad: I'm headin' to the Citadel and watch the giant robot stomp around and blow stuff up. Maybe that will make me feel better! Dave S. Edited out profanity. Please read the site rules on profanity. Bben46, Moderator
TheOutlander
Weird I didn't need a slave outfit to do that quest, but then it probably depends upon the speech options you choose. If Prosper has a slave outfit why not trying reverse pick pocketing a better clothing item on him, then pick pocketing the slave outfit? Or you could just kill him... cacophany
Are you on the console? If you're on pc you can add the item to your inventory via console. If not... :/ I guess you'll have to look really hard for it or start a new character. :/ Good luck.
gsmanners
If you're that far along in the game, you ought to know already how linear this game tends to be. A good example is that guy in the box in Paradise Falls. Or the consequences of certain actions in the Tenpenny Tower quest. It should have been obvious that you play these things all at once or not at all.
evilneko
It'd be really annoying if the slave outfits were quest items. Maybe just the one you can get from that dead slave at the train tunnel. Would Fallout crash if you loaded your current save without The Pitt loaded? If not, you could probably just play with it unloaded for a bit, save with it unloaded, then go back and re-enable it in fomm and load your latest save. That should reset all of the Pitt-related stuff.

Hey Outlander, Thanks SO much for your last suggestion!! Poor Prosper, we hardly knew ya! I hated to pop him, but The Pitt beckons! Lucky for me a Lightbringer can get away with murder! Oh, and gsmanners, I totally get the linear nature of the game and how long term effects are caused by the players actions. I love this aspect of the game and it's one of the qualities of it that makes it so involving. IMHO, my particular issue is different. We're talking about an item that's essential to quest activation, however, that item's importance is not, in any way, made clear to the player unless you happen to meet up with Wehrner BEFORE you find the Train Tunnel. I don't think that all Slave Outfits should necessarily be Quest items, but you shouldn't be allowed to sell something that you're going to need later to access extra gameplay. Speaking of Quest items, I'm still carrying around the ink jar from "Stealing Independence", which is no longer needed, but I can't get rid of it. Kinda silly. BTW, what is the keyring from? Dave S. ZeonicGlory
The keyring has all the keys that you've collected in the game.
Xenobuzz
The keyring has all the keys that you've collected in the game. OH! Oh, hmm, that seems kinda random! I mean, what good does the "keyring" description do? It would be far more informational if it actually listed all the keys that I have. That way, I've have a much more detailed inventory AND would be able to more quickly assess what keys I need, such as the four required to get the Power Armor from the "You Gotta Shoot 'Em In The Head" quest. It's funny how sometimes programmers will focus all their attention to detail on certain things, while others are just screaming for a little extra maintenance and R&D. I'm not trying to knock the game too hard here, I LOVE it. It's just funny how some things are just left hangin'! Dave S.
evilneko
I vastly prefer Fallout 3's keyring to Oblivion's exhaustive list of every key you've ever picked up. It really isn't that important. Quests generally track your progress anyway.
