dairekiller
So I'm downloading a collection for Fallout 4, it said it was 100GB but it has taken up much more space than that, is there a reason for this or something I can do to fix this? Not sure if it is downloading duplicate files or something, there seems to be a Steam Folder with fallout 4 in it that has the mods, and also a Vortex folder with fallout 4 that has the mods
Solution showler Posted May 13 Solution Share Posted May 13 Vortex uses "hardlinks" to deploy mods. The actual files are in the Vortex deployment folder, the Fallout 4 folder has the hardlinks. Hardlinks take up virtually no space, but Windows reports them as the same size as the file they are linked to. This leads to false reports of the amount of space being used. It also means that your hard drive will appear to be able to hold more files than it's actual size due to the false reports. This is a Windows thing, not a Vortex thing. You just kind of have to put up with it.
dairekiller
So say my storage is full (I've got 120gb of free space) after only 60gb out of 100gb of the mod collection is downloaded on vortex, what should I do then?
showler
Where is your download folder? Keep in mind that downloading the Collection will take 100gb, but installing it to the Deployment folder will more than double that as the mods need to be copied from the zip file into a usable form. Your download folder should, ideally, be on a large separate drive not the same drive your game and deployment folder are on.
