InDarkestNight
Okay, answer my question or don't. Why make me ask the same thing over and over? Is it normal to feel the way I do? What can I do about feeling like a creep for watching videos of younger people? Simply playing that Toe II Toe game also made me feel old. That's probably the lesser of my worries though. However, it may still get in the way of me consuming any media.
ChuckYufarley
I read this a couple days ago and had the inclination to respond empathetically. Seems like a few of you had the same first instinct. I didn't though, because I wanted to see what played out. Thought maybe you were seeing a few more grey hairs every day, or feeling low because it's tough seeing your parents getting older, or maybe even losing a classmate has you thinking of your own mortality. Nope. You want permission to keep watching Harry effing Potter. Grow the hell up. Same goes for the turd who's sad because he can't play video games well anymore. InDarkestNight
When I did mention Harry Potter? Also, how much media do YOU know of that has only people who are middle-aged or older? Also, this problem is only going to get worse as I get older. How often do people in their 80s see media characters that AREN'T younger than them? It doesn't matter what you consume. Seemingly all media, regardless of the intended audience, mainly focuses on super younger characters. Also regarding this Toe II Toe game, it was made with graphics based on the original gameboy, and by 'original' I mean the one with the green screen. What is the odds that a younger person made that? They were probably at least my age if they even knew that thing existed. What am I supposed to do? Only watch stuff with old people in it? Only watch stuff with robot characters? Am I 'too old' for movies now? Too old for tv? Too old to be using youtube? Too old to be PLAYING GAMES? Am I supposed to just lay all that down just because I've seen too much of this world? I was simply asking a question if it was normal for this focus on youth to upset me, or how I could get used to it, or even if I should. Last time I post on here asking for advice. Is there any place on the whole internet that's safe for that stuff? Can't you have a civil conversation with freaking grown-ups anymore? Bye. Youth-focused things don't stop being fun just because you're older. (I never got into Harry Potter myself -- and given the author's views, I'd probably buy the books and movies used to avoid sending her money -- but I can see why people are into it.) Maybe do some personal inventory in an attempt to determine where that feeling comes from. That'd be a good place to start. And if playing video games no longer 'flips your biscuits', get a new hobby. I've noticed my interest in playing has staved off and now I'm more focused on modding. I spend more time in the CS and in GIMP creating and modifying images than I do playing. So, maybe try modding more because I know you're still interested in whatever game is your favorite. I'm guessing Skyrim. You're still young, for Christ's sake. You can still learn to do other things. And let me tell you, a lot more things are going to make you feel old. Having any aches and pains yet? My best advice right now would be to start becoming comfortable in your own skin. Embrace what you are. If you keep worrying about it to this extent, you'll be 90 before you're 60. Quote Okay, this got a lot darker than I intended. Yeah, sorry about that. But to be fair, you did play the mortality card.

I believe that person was replying metaphorically, in that Harry Potter was a metaphor for all youth-focused media.

Fun times.... You're in a different stage of your life is all. There will be times when you think about your past and maybe regret those times being gone. But it's important to always look ahead I think... to focus more on the now and tomorrow. Wisdom is what you have now and while it helps you day to day, it's important to share it whenever and wherever you can with other people regardless of age so they don't have to experience making the same mistakes you might have made reaching this point in your life. Granted, few will listen probably. But even if you can only teach one person an important lesson you've learned so that they can carry the torch even further, you can live with the satisfaction that you made a difference in someone's life and contributed to a better future for everyone. I figure I've given good advice to a few people in my later years and that makes me feel kind of proud- needed even. Maybe we'll all eventually learn to stop hating so much and try to understand each other more instead.:)
emmalily0
As an older person, consuming media can be incredibly enriching, offering opportunities to stay informed, entertained, and connected with the world. It's a great way to explore new interests, keep up with current events, and maintain social connections through various platforms.
