hi, i'm thinking of making a new playthrough and have most of my old mods intact, thing is i haven't playing in about 7 months, so i know that i'm going to be horribly out of date and was noticing that there was a "next gen" update and well since i have been modding skyrim for a while now, i know that version updates like "special edition" or what not tend to destroy modding...

how bad is it? or is it just another skse version wait for certain mods and tada everything works again type of deal?

Bad enough for a roll back mod to pop up, I managed to avoid the update and I run 163 and are happy with it as it is.  😉

I do not have the link to the roll back, but it cannot be that hard to find.

A lot of players have rolled back to the .163 version (there are utilities for that here on Nexus, otherwise lock down your .acf file to prevent the update)

The updated force endgame style "ive-already-beaten-the-game-and-I-am-really-bored" type CC content right into steppping out of the vault, which destroys its balance.

This will lead to many new players getting butchered and leaving the game for good in frustration and to others savescumming their way to endgame level gear and so never experience the joy of collecting better armor and weapons step-by-step throughout the game. So now the game is missing that huge element of game progression.

This is probably the single worst thing they did and amounts to vandalizing their own game.

They also fixed some bugs no one had ever heard of, while introducing new ones and unfixed some bugs that had been addressed by now (no longer working ) community patches.

So it was way worse than even the pessimists expected.

This is what I just wrote in another thread:

All Beth had to do for a successful update was a few small checks written to outside authors for their preexisting , working and tested files and then do the following:

- Adapt the pre-existing working Widescreen mod into their game files

- Add the content of UOFO4P to fix most bugs.

-Add Buffout 4.

-High FPS Physics Fix

- Replace their underwhelming HD pack with the superior Luxors HD overhaul

- Add NAC-X weather (which is a lot more than just weather and, as its resource hungry, could have been a toggable option)

- For a new DLC, that is balanced and not too early add Xander's Aid and/or South of the Sea-Atoms Storm, or add america rising 2, or all 3 for 3 large new DLCs and maybe add a couple smaller ones like CSEPs Loaded bases. (None of this absurd wearing TVs as helmets nonsense, which I understand is part of a Halloween themed added DLC in the update?)

-Add at least one of Zorkaz fantastic New Lands mods, perhaps The Wilderness or The Swamplands.

-Add CBBE and Bodyslide so women's bodies in the game dont look like gulag survivors. This also dials up the attraction to new players, youngish  males being by far, the largest demographic of players.

-maybe add a couple small common-sense files like Splinterz, which allows you to shoot or punch wooden doors into smithereens instead of lockpicking.

- Add Atomic world 2.0 for more locations that are all immersive and look/feel like they belonged into FO4 from the get-go.

DONE!.... with minimal effort and minimal risk and get wide acclaim for a fantastic job from just about everyone.

PS: they didnt even need to do the weapons debris bug fix since NVIDIA has its newer cards recognize FO4 now and turn it off automatically.

DAMN

EDIT: i might just say f it and just go to new vegas again

Or just run the old version.

there are guides and utilities here on Nexus for it.

There are SO MANY just fantastic mods out for the mature version you can play for months and have new content.

Here are just some incredible examples:

Xander's Aid - DLC at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)  huge quest DLC that takes you throught he glowing sea deep underground

The Wilderness - Now with four anomalies and a map at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)  Just a small quest lifting  a curse. but the WorldSpace is breathtaking the music composed just for this mod.

A film noir style quest as a detective uncovering a dark plot:

CSEP Presents Loaded Bases - Quest Mod at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

And of coruse if its been a while for you and ypu ahvent doen far Harbor DLC yet. thats  a work of art!

Make the game look next gen! with Fallout 4 HD Overhaul at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

And fantastic new power Armor that looks realistic and is supported by top notch animations SE-01 Power Armor at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

Atomic world adds a couple hundred new locations into the world. all believable all feel they they ciuldhave/should have been part of the original release, inluding 3 cities in the glowing sea!

Atomic World at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

South of the Seas-Atoms Storm, an incredible network of settlements, catacombs/bunkers/ monsters, Children of the Atom troops wiedling gatling lasers all in and under the glowing sea with no conflict with Atomic world (mod author loaded both to make sure)

South of the Sea - Atoms Storm at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

Etc etc etc etc.

There is a reason Fallout 4 still has nearly 100,000 players -in-game and thats just by steam tracking not counting GOG and others.

My game updated and now it is broken.

Perhaps these will help:

NixGen - Disable Next Gen Update Content at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

NixGen - Control Quest Starts for each new Next Gen Update quest at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

But most likely you may have to use this one to undo the udpate.

Here are two downgarder utilities

Fallout 4 Downgrader at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

Simple Fallout 4 Downgrader at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

And once rolled back be sure to find your .acf file and set it to read only to  lock down your game and prevent updates even if you by mistake start the game via steam rather than F4SE

Also GOG had a .163 version of the game FS recently and post-updatye as well, not sure if thats still the case

This is so insane.
Todd could just sit still, .163 is rock solid and backed by ALL the great modders, and let everyone get on the TV show train, THEN at some point in time release an update that actually brought some qualtiy.

But, he did just had to fcuk the modders and release some crap so he could say to the the shareholders that they "prepared" for the TV show.

For those new and old players reading this thread.....follow the post above, stay on old-gen.

IMO Todd was more worried about Fallout:London than trying to ride the wave of the Fallout TV show.

Fallout:London is essentially going to Callout Bethesda - if this small team of developers with PASSION for the franchise can produce a DLC sized (basically a new game on their engine) - what on earth is Bethesda's juggernaut development team going to do to top that?
