QuakeNaked
Vortex version 1.11.7 Skyrim Anniversary Edition version 1.6.1170 - through Steam I've had Vortex installed a long time, and I didn't really understand how to work it properly when I got started with it. Back then, the only installation instructions were Gopher's youtube channels, which meant I was manually installing SKSE. Now Vortex will install it for you - IF - it detects it's not installed. My problem is, the version of SKSE in Vortex is outdated, and because I wanted a "clean slate" and it seemed like it would be faster to delete the SkyrimSE profile than uninstalling all those old no-longer-working mods I had from years ago, so I just deleted the SkyrimSE profile, then made a new one. So, now I don't have any SKSE mod or plugin listed in the profile so I can't use the arrow on the side of the mod and click update like I can with installed mods, and the SKSE tool in the toolbox doesn't have any option to update when I click the 3 vertical dots. So, thinking that since I had manually added the SKSE files to my Skyrim folder, I should just delete them, and then remove SKSE from the toolbox and restart Vortex, and then maybe Vortex will detect SKSE isn't installed and do its magic thing. But that didn't work when I restarted Vortex. Then I wondered if Vortex had a folder somewhere that also had SKSE in it, and what I needed to do was delete SKSE from that folder, but the only one I found was the folder Vortex Mods, which had a folder skyrimse created today, and it did not have any SKSE files in it. So I'm really stuck, I can't get Vortex to update SKSE, or some of the other tools I see there, like WyreBash, FNIS, Bodyslide, and SSEEdit. showler
SKSE is easy. Just download the new version and drag and drop it into the box at the bottom of the mods tab while managing Skyrim. Vortex recognizes SKSE automatically so it can install it like any other mod. All the others are just a matter of overwriting the old version with the new version I believe, according to the install instructions for each (whether it's an installer or manually unzipping the files to the correct place). Since it's replacing existing files, Vortex doesn't really need to update anything as everything stays in the same place.
Solution showler Posted July 11 Solution Share Posted July 11 Actually, I just realized SKSE is even easier than that since it has a "mod manager" download button here on Nexus Mods: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/30379?tab=files
QuakeNaked
Thanks for the reply. I used that link and installed it that way, but it doesn't add it to the toolbox. I suppose everything will be alright. But it leads to a question of why wasn't SKSE showing up as a loose/unmanaged file like the creation club content does when it was in the Skyrim folder? Is having the SKSE files in the Skyrim folder going to present a problem?
showler
It's not added to the tools? Silly question, but did you scroll all the way down in the tool applet? Anyway, SKSE doesn't have any ESP/ESM/ESL type file involved so Vortex has no reason to show it to you. It's treated like the game executable or any of the other support files, not like a mod file or asset file (textures/sounds/models/fx). If you want to add it to tools, you should be able to create a new tool and point it to the "skse_loader.exe" file in your main Skyrim folder (not the Data folder). QuakeNaked
Yes, I scrolled to the bottom of the tools, it wasn't there. So I clicked the + sign and it suggested SKSE, so I clicked it and it's in the toolbox, but I don't see a way to point it to the skse_loader.exe (which I put in the Skyrim folder as per the SKSE readme instructions). showler
I think there should be three dots on the right that open up the menu with an "options" option.
QuakeNaked
Yes, and my bad, I didn't think to click Edit, but I see there is a way to set the file paths. Thanks for the assistance, it's much appreciated!
showler
You're welcome. I'm watching Crunchyroll...I almost typed "Dōitashimashite" instead.
