Here is a guide to rolling back Fallout 4 Game of the Year Edition to 1.10.163.0 (the version before the "Next Gen Update")

Do keep in mind that you can also just grab Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition DRM-free on GOG and skip all this process, while also having the ability to rollback anytime you want hassle-free, play offline, and store your games and their Backup Offline Installers externally.

To get started, install the English version of Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition via Steam.

Before starting this process, you should disable Steam Cloud Saves to avoid causing problems with your vanilla game saves.

On Steam rolling back to the 1.10.163.0 version is a doable but complex process. To do so, you need to follow this instructions:

  1. Type steam://open/console into your browser. This will prompt Steam to open the console.
  2. There, you need to download each part of the previous Fallout 4: GOTY Edition version by typing the following commands into the console:
    1. For Part A use:
      download_depot 377160 377161 7497069378349273908
    2. For Part B use:
      download_depot 377160 377163 5819088023757897745
    3. For the executable file use:
      download_depot 377160 377162 5847529232406005096
    4. For the English version use:
      download_depot 377160 377164 2178106366609958945
  3. To download the content for each of the DLCs that you may own type these commands:
    1. For HD Texture Pack use:
      download_depot 377160 540810 1558929737289295473
    2. For Automatron use:
      download_depot 377160 435870 1691678129192680960
    3. For Automatron English language pack use:
      download_depot 377160 435871 5106118861901111234
    4. For Wasteland Workshop use:
      download_depot 377160 435880 1255562923187931216
    5. For Far Harbor use:
      download_depot 377160 435881 1207717296920736193
    6. Far Harbor English language pack use:
      download_depot 377160 435882 8482181819175811242
    7. For Contraptions Workshop use:
      download_depot 377160 480630 5527412439359349504
    8. For Vault-Tec Workshop use:
      download_depot 377160 480631 6588493486198824788
    9. For Vault-Tec Workshop English language pack use:
      download_depot 377160 393885 5000262035721758737
    10. For Nuka World use:
      download_depot 377160 490650 4873048792354485093
    11. For Nuka World English language pack use:
      download_depot 377160 393895 7677765994120765493

These files will download into your Steam library folder (by default it is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_377160") in separate depot folders, for example, the Fallout 4 executable file would be in a folder named "depot_377162".

Once you have these files downloaded, create a new folder on your desktop, and copy the contents of each of the aforementioned folders into this new folder replacing files as you go.

Once you are done, it means you have constructed the entirety of the previous version of Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition. Now, simply delete everything in your current Fallout 4: GOTY Edition installation folder and replace it with everything in this folder.

Great post Very nicely layed out simple to follow & easy to copy paste into the steam console (ctrl V if anyone doesn't know/realise you can do that)

I do have one little question though (I'm sure someone will ask it sooner or later) so if we already have the game installed Do we need/have to download the addons as well

or can we just copy paste/move them to the new 1.10.163.0 folder or do we need to download all as I don't think the addons were updated (read in the posts on a mod page)

P.s I think it would be a good idea to pin this post

If the addons are exactly the same you can just copy them over. These instructions are intended to be the last "error-prone" method of downgrading. For example, if you cleaned your masters or something it won't be the exact same file anymore.

Thank You, Yes absolutely agree it is always best practice for a complete re-install.

I have a limited ammount of data so please forgive me if it seems I was coming across as being too lazy to download the whole list this wasn't my intention,

I wouldn't recommend or even attempt trying that with the Unmodified files unless certain which files to move/keep,

Thank You for again the guide 🙂

Great, a written Guide is much better than all YT advice—one additional Tipp. To prevent Steam updates by accident or how ever to update your preNG-Game you should set the file appmanifest_377160.acf in .....<path>\Steam\steamapps directory to READ ONLY. Steam uses this file to check if an upgrade for your FO4 is available, so it can never again do an upgrade when it is locked for writing.

Does anybody have any idea which Creation Club mods are causing problems with the deprecated version of Fallout 4?

Because I erased everything in my Fallout 4 folder--including the next-gen updated game and all 40 or so Creation Club items I've bought, which had been working perfectly--followed all the instructions here to roll the game back, it worked perfectly, but when I re-downloaded all my Creation Club content the depricated game kept CTD.

Erased it all again, moved all the depricated files back into the Fallout 4 folder, and it works perfectly again.

So it's obviously the Creation Club content, which I paid about $100 for, that's causing the problems.

Is it possible to change the download location for the steam library folder. I do not have enough space in my default drive to download the whole thing.

Yes! Find the Fallout 4 Wabbajack mod bundle installer and it'll give you detailed instructions on how to install Fallout 4 outside the protected x86 folder.

Doing this will also end all sorts of crash issues caused by the x86 folder (until I tried Fallout London today; now it CTDs constantly). I had been used to CTD every 15 to 20 minutes even with vanilla F4, but once outside x86 I've played over 100 hours with only one crash, and that was because I didn't destroy the turrets outside Danse's hideout before Maxon left. Silly me.
