DirebearCoat
I came across the thing where you find out that Ysolda has been buying Sleeping Tree Sap from an Orc adventurer / bandit. You talk to her and she isn't overly upset that her business partner was killed while obtaining the tree sap for her. Instead, she works out a deal with you to obtain the stuff for her. Now, if you look up the effects of the Sleeping Tree Sap, you find out that it has strange effects that seem to be, but aren't beneficial at all. You also find out that the stuff might be illegal. She's paying top Septims for the stuff, though, so she is making a serious profit from selling it to whoever her buyer/s is/are. Has anyone figured out who her client/s is/are? And does this mean that Ysolda is a criminal drug dealer?
scorrp10
At least looking up in CK, sleeping tree sap is not involved in other quests, nor does Ysolda have any interaction about it with anyone.
showler
According to the note, she's selling it to the Khajiit caravans. What they do with it is their concern.
scorrp10
Well, yeah, except none of the Khajiit in Skyrim show any particular interest in the stuff...
DirebearCoat
None of my characters have joined the Thieves Guild, so I haven't done any of that story line. I don't know how that story line goes. However, I can't help but think that somehow, she was cutting into their skooma trade with the Khajit. You'd think they'd want to do something about her. Either blackmail her into cutting them in on her profits, or taking her out... Or perhaps Ysolda could somehow turn the tables on them and, instead, she and your character end up being high ranking officers in the Thieves Guild. It seems like a missed chance for more missions and expanded plots and story lines.
7531Leonidas
Sleeping Tree sap could be of special interest to some Argonian groups, maybe for religious rites, and to any who don't want Skooma.

I don't know anything about Argonian religious rites, but the idea that there are those who want the sleeping tree sap instead of skooma... Could it be that sleeping tree sap is used to get skooma addicts off of their skooma addiction? If that's the case, that would be a motive for the Thieves Guild to stop Ysolda. It's reducing the number of skooma customers...
7531Leonidas
I just reasoned that the Sleeping Tree in Skyrim was related to the Hist in Argonian lore, and its sap would be important (and much easier to obtain) in some rites, I don't know enough lore to be sure.
