ElDonRobinHood
I recently stumbled over this mod "More Than 15 Ability Icons" (<- Archive of its NexusMods page) but its author swinka6666 vanished in 2016 and deleted all their work Still, there's a working copy of it floating around but relatively hard to find. So I tried to figure out the license to figure out if it were "okay" to re-publish the mod but there's nothing in the mod itself (no license, nothing) nor on the NM-page (Permissions: "This author has not provided any additional notes regarding file permissions") or in the credited parent mod Select Soldier Icons (Creator "ZFail" seems to be gone too) Well that didn't help. Next step: "what's the copyright on code whose author hasn't specified a license or anything" Damn, copyright law says I'm f§$%&d - Thanks Stackexchange - no legal way to re-release even the unmodified code.  My last course of action: What rights did swinka6666 given to NexusMods back in 2016? Is there some way it can at least be re-published only on NexusMods or something? I know the chance is low but I had to ask...
HeyYou
If he deleted all of his work from Nexus, then Nexus can't legally make it available again.
ElDonRobinHood
9 hours ago, HeyYou said: If he deleted all of his work from Nexus, then Nexus can't legally make it available again. Sooo.... you don't know what rights a mod author grants to NexusMods? I mean yeah - I assume the same but I'd like to know for sure from NM moderators/admins. And even if an author doesn't define any license or file distribution policies at least NM must have the right to distribute the files. ------ @Moderators/admins - btw. it'd be nice if a deleted users info page wouldn't offer the illusion of one still being able to send them a message right up to the point after clicking on send... But do you still have swinka6666's email address? Could you forward a message?
showler
Don't confuse what Nexus Mods can legally do with what that are willing to do. It wouldn't matter whether they could distribute the file, their policy is that they wouldn't.  You'd be better served trying to find a mod author willing to create a similar mod from scratch.
