Skyrim Modding - Dead for the "average" gamer

first item on the table is the vortex mod manager, and the following "fix bethesda's s#*!" mods

Their not brainkilling at all to sit down and install, at best it takes around 10-30 depending on your wifi download speeds to get the initial setup.

If your looking QoL mods, I have 200. Textures, 300. Boobs, 20.

I am honestly just looking for a few mods, that will be as easy as possible to install which makes the game look better, adds laughably big boobs everywhere that look as good as possible, with scanty clothing. And any simple to install mods that improve gameplay (add quests, make the mechanics interesting).

I am 100% only looking for super simple, don't have to read the readme on the mod or dependencies simple to install mods and will sacrifice any mods that do. I also really, really wish there was a mod collection category where your mod collection either met this criteria or was not allowed in that category.

Ah, that might be a bit harder to go with then. Even the "Yuriana wench" mod, which adds several "big boob" girls to the game, relies on XP32 female skeletons, hair mods, cbbe (body mod), etc.

You actually read the "readme"'s?

I am frankly 99% sure that OP is here purely to troll and has no real interest in getting a working modded install of Skyrim.   If the time and brain bandwidth spent writing all these complaints and retorts, went instead into going over a few simple guides like this one, OP would have their setup by now.   Unless, of course, all these were written by ChatGPT.

Now, about Nexus Collections.  A collection is basically someone uploading their WORKING modlist with all the install options, conflict resolutions, load order etc.  I dont do collections, so not sure how they handle offsite stuff like SKSE64 or tools like Nemesis, or how they are affected by game updates.   That said, any collection uploaded/updated in 2024 should have all the latest stuff.

Not to mention, these days Skyrim modding is miles more accessible than it was around 2014-18, when NMM was state of the art.

And in general, for anyone having problems and genuinely interested in getting things working and not just dissing the platform and the community, most people here tend to be incredibly helpful.

Holy hell how do you people not see how damn toxic you are? Member since 2012. First post in 12 years. Trolling? That's one long con there buddy. Seriously, the Skyrim modding community is probably the most toxic thing I've interacted with on the internet since I was in my teens.

Here’s the thing, for those not used to modding or have been away from it for a while, yes many mods have dependencies (read requirements) that may be difficult to adapt to.

The big thing is no current games are any better, and in fact many are much worse to try and mod.

After 12 years Skyrim and SE are the about most stable and easiest to mod thanks to the work of thousands of people, and yeah it requires a certain degree of computer knowledge to do.

If you feel intimidated or overwhelmed start slow, read and look up the many videos on utube and other places to slowly learn, and build confidence and knowledge.

Hell, I’m an old boomer with limited computer speak, and I learned, much of it from asking questions here, the big thing is I have a love for this game that made it worth my time to learn and turn my game into a work of art that is as current and playable as any new offerings out there.

As to not wanting to pay for Premium, well that’s your personal preference, guess it’s just really not that important for you to spend the time it takes to download your throttled download speed.

You can pay for a month and do the needful, then let it expire , till you feel the need again.

To me it was worth it, not only for the speed, but to help support the community that made it all possible.

And yeah, I’m one of those that just barely got in on the Premium memberships while they were still offering it for a one time payment for life.

If that’s all you really want, go back to some of the older mods that had less dependencies, like from around 2020 and back, yeah the newer ones can be a PITA, but go back a bit in Nexus and you’ll find with just a few additional downloads you can have quest, happy bouncing boobs, upgrades to armor and scanty clothing, heck, some mods have that built in.

Hey, if I can I’ll answer your questions if you’re not sure, no need to be angry, some of us do tend to forget we didn’t start out knowing it all.

But I always found that once you get past the flak, there are lots of people here willing to spend the time and share their knowledge freely.

Which is why I suggested the 'Popular (All Time)' filter.  Those first 10 pages or so tend to be the oldest, and easiest to find additional mods for.  MAYBE one or two ppl could be convinced to help set up a 20-30 mod collection w/the OP's restrictions.

I did really like the OP's suggestion for certain categories for collections, however.

Hey, to be honest some of the mod requirements have gotten way out of hand.

Not just a  litany of Nexus ones, but off site requirements that in some cases have a longer list and suspect sites are making it daunting for even those of us that are used to it.

As an example I had to ask for help here just to find a version of High Poly Heads earlier this week as the normal site that supports it was unusable.

And add to that all the ones that you have to now subscribe and donate to such as Patron and others just for a requirement.

Understandable that it’s their mod, their rules, but the latest batches are becoming rather obnoxious, and it seems that gone are the days of people just being proud of their accomplishment.

At the price of angering some, I think creation club and their continual money grabbing gatcha mods are at  least a major contributor the the current issues.

The "requirement hell" is also something we're hoping our DP changes help. Mod authors were able to get more DP by breaking their mods into many smaller pieces, but that is no longer the case.

I work for one of the largest software companies on earth, on the business end, to be sure. But I work with Enterprise Software implementations. But here's the thing, when I get home and I sit down with my entertainment to relax. I don't want to spend hours figuring out how to make software work. This is entertainment and for those of us who just want entertainment, Skyrim modding is dead. It's over, it just is. I'm not changing the culture, the eco-system is too far gone even if people wanted it to change I suspect.

Skyrim is by far the shittiest game to mod in my entire collection. I'm just installing Battle Brothers now, and modding that game is an absolute breeze. Total conversion? No problem, It'll take me a few minutes. Want to slap on ten different mods? Again, zero issue.

Mount and Blade Bannerlord? An absolute zinch, whether total conversion or just 20-30 random mods it's EZ.

X-Com? Again, zero damn issue, just slap in the mod, bada-bing, bada-boom it works

For the end user, who hasn't been immersed in Skyrim modding as a separate hobby for the last ten years, Skyrim modding as it stands today is a field of abject misery, getting told you're a f*#@ing moron for not wanting to spend your limited, worn out free time reading technical documentation (even before you ask, it's in the damn mod descriptions. It's so common, mod authors pre-empt it in their descriptions that you're an idiot for even THINKING about asking for something that's in the technical documentation of mod 73 out of 137!).

I think a lot of people have been too immersed in the Skyrim modding community, and have forgotten that non-community members pop in to mod from time to time. If you want a club of super-enthusiasts creating super-enthusiast mods that's cool. But that means it is dead to the rest of us. And that's okay, I guess. Mod authors don't owe me anything, but they should stop pretending it isn't a convoluted, technical mess only approachable for people willing to adopt Skyrim modding as a hobby.

I am not, so I'm just going to move on from Skyrim (about time really, it outlived my marriage twice over) and play and mod other games with less convoluted less toxic modding communities.

Not sure what DP changes refer to, but from a business perspective. Skyrim Modding drives a great deal of traffic to Nexus and if you created a "newb friendly" collection section. Where collections had to be white-listed by admins as GENUINELY one-click-installs with the Nexus (if you have premium) then I think premium sales would go up. Especially if you got some PR around it. This in turn might drive mod authors to want to create for that category.

I also think it should be concerning, that many peoples first experience of the Nexus is probably the Skyrim community which is not exactly the most welcoming, new-user friendly community on the site.
