fraquar
Bethesda doesn't force the update on you. GOG doesn't force the update on you (even when they eventually get it they won't). Steam does - unless you micromanage it. ----- That is why I moved off of Steam completely. ----- At the end of the day Bethesda is the 800lb gorilla - they do what they do. They aren't going to change - because if they did you'd have thought they'd have changed with Starfield and you see what a mess that became. jjb54
Except that I have a friend on the inside of Steam - NO - Bethesda and Steam work hand-in-hand. If Bethesda said - Give options, to update or not ... Steam would do that. If Bethesda - "encourages" auto update, Steam will update. Steam works for Bethesda ... as an agent.
showler
He says that, but I bet he can't give an example of a game on Steam that allows you to block updates. Because Steam doesn't offer that option. At all. The closest they come is putting the current/previous version as a "beta update" for people on the beta channel.
fraquar
You don't need your friend to tell you that. a) Steam is the exclusive rights distributor for new Bethesda content. b) Steam's DRM is embedded with the game. ---- GOG purges that DRM once they get permission to distribute it as a legacy game. ---- Until Bethesda releases a game title that is good enough to warrant installing Steam just to get access to it - Steam comes off the system. Why? Their only good games have long since been relegated to legacy status.
