I just wanted wanted to say hi

@RomanRThen you where lucky for sure. I did start making scripts in Morrowind 30 years ago. We did not have any such features back then. Not even 2010 as far as I can recall. I did stop modding because of it as my scripts did not do what I wanted them to do and I could not find out why. Maybe it was a similar bug?  I could never find it. I did fond funnier stuff to do instead. I cannot recall what I did instead though...  Well I did play Skyrim from 2011-11-11, that is what I did recall. I do not remember if I did call for help or not. Qarl passed away 2011 and I do not recall if he was still around or not? Well, I was tired of modding anyway at the point as I did play Oblivion maybe for 4 years or so...  I do not remember. Did I not stop with it 2008 already?  Well 2-4 years, does not matter much really. What matters is that we have fun and enjoy what we are doing. I did enjoy my latest Oblivion run 2020-2022. Modding Oblivion, F3 and FNV suits me just fine as I know what I am doing there with those games and it does not matter much honestly which of those 3 games that appeal to us most. Do I want to play or mod other games? Well I am not so sure. The company that made FNV, Obsidian, do have a couple of interesting titles, similar to the games we are playing made by Bethesda. Obsidian also have game developers that worked with Fallout 1 and 2 maybe even Bethesda as well, maybe...  IDK...  It is the producer and project management that set the rules, not the crew.

Would I ever want to work with games and graphics? No way. Well maybe if I make it alone, but that is impossible. I want my freedom. I did learn this in school last year, specially with the time limits and stress. Did I have fun with Unreal Engine? No way, I did not. It did not appeal to me at all. Does it look good? Yes, amazing, but that does not mean I like using it. The school and all stuff we was forced to do, was also a test to see our stress limits and our teacher made that very clear for us, as that is how this business works. It is a lot of money involved, no doubt. Making stuff as fast and cheap as possible, is extremely vital in the pro world.

Making more modern stuff? Well the way Papyrus works, the way we must initiate and define the scripts, is nuts. Why did Bethesda made it so much harder? In one way, I do like the lower priority of scripts in Skyrim and F4, as a script do not need to run every frame, slowing down the performance, mostly. That does not mean I like it or have fun with it nor understanding it. It has so much basic stuff that we must do that just feels frustrating and I want to have fun, not feel frustrated.  😄

Our teachers told us, frustration is good, it means you are learning something. Does it?  😄

I recommend you check out the Construction Set Extender. It fixes a lot of bugs. It doesn't make your mod dependent on OBSE unless you are using the OBSE functions. It has syntax checking and Intellisense for the base and OBSE functions.

Heh, this makes me feel so obsolete. I always believed that pro world for something about quality - "you get what you paid for" - or something like that. This isn't a pro world for me. This is a world where profit means all. A world in which you're unimportant, just a tool for making money for someone.

If they truly believe in this, then they must have prerfect life, yes? Frustated every day, how long can you live such life before you burn out? A year? Five? Ten? I give them credit for unmasking what gaming industry is, but good luck to fing truly talented people with new ideas for conditions like these.

@RomanRI do not know how true it really is. All 3D artists we did meet where all extremely relaxed, did show us the highest quality CGI I have ever seen. One car company did show us this:

They have their HQ here in Gothenburg, next door to Volvo. I have been outside their HQ as well. They came to our classroom and did show us amazing stuff. They also have a site where they promote amateur 3S artists

It is this guy that told us that frustration is good. I did not like that teacher much honestly and he did not like me for sure. He is also a pro fencer, a bloody viking if you ask me, with shaved head, black nails and big chain in his black jeans. He is all for black clothing, maybe a goth. Timothy Meyer

https://se.linkedin.com/in/timothhymyers

He used to work here: https://www.filmgate-films.com/

I found it, damn so hard. We must login to see his stuff, just login with Google...  😕  Damn.

Our main teacher was cool, no doubt. His last word to me was that he missed me and that it was a shame I did quit. YRGO do streestest the students. All University and High Schools have high speed. If I had worked 8-12 hours a day, I had managed to do it, but I did not. I got burned out a year ago, lost interest...  Thats it.

Here is my Portfolio I managed to make in last April https://sites.google.com/view/per-erik-petersson/hem

The Volvo 3D boss did like it. I talked to my classmates, those I used to talk to, no one of them did get any offer from him. I did. he told me to apply during this summer. Did I?  No way...  😮  it is bad for both me and Volvo if they waste their and my time right now. He also did asked me if I knew where they did have their office?  Yes, as I had been there, as we where invited. I also managed to sneak into their secret areas, by mistake...  😮  Damn, I did notice fast I was at the wrong floor.  😄  Someone came out from that door, I took the door before it closed and went in.  😮  I did not tell him that for sure at our Showreal...  😉 last May

What we old vikings from Gothenburg is good at, is cars and 3D. It seems we are best in Scandinavia according to all pros we did meet but they sure know how to promote them self. Many companies are looking at the Gothenburg CGI scene and 3D scene and game designs, so it is growing here. We have 3 car factories in this area. Volvo, SAAB (renamed), Polestar. I used to work for SAAB 4 years 1982-1986, in their dirty old gearbox factory, so damn boring. Cool crew though. We spent our time together all around the clock. I have never been so close to any work mates after that.

Polestar teaser. This is good 3D. So damn good. This is what they all require you to know. Can I do it? Yes for sure. As good as they do it. No doubt. How many 3D artists? 7 and how many can they employ? 1 single person 2025. Do I want to work there?  YES!!!!   I really like their style and they also designed a bike and a boat.

Their boat

Stockholm... ??? 😉  Damn Svear...  😄  We need this in Gothenburg. I used to go by boat to our school at Lindholmen. We also have plenty of Isles Zoom out and see. My favorite?  This as I used to have a small boat. We used to travel there, me and my former GF as we could be alone there in the beginning of the 80's. Do whatever we want. Swim, dive, well you name it.  😄  Water temp in July and August? 22 C. Sometimes we also brought friends.

Damn...  I have met Julian. he was at our school presenting Candela. He was cool and calm as well. The thing is, we did met so many companies, I cannot remember half of them. That was part of our education, 4h every week, at least, minimum.

@Moksha8088Well I do not think that will happen honestly and I am not very interested in trying to add boobs on molerats, no matter gender.  😄  Did you ask at Lovers Lab? They might know  😄

@RomanRI agree with you. I am not much into car design myself, but cars is the hardest thing to do, well beside creatures that is. I do know cars and hard 3D and when it came to soft stuff, well I did try to avoid it, but I sure made some stuff that is at my school account for sure. I did not kept it for myself. The only offer I got that day was from Volvo and I do not even know if I think the model that I did choose to make is awesome or just ugly but I do know Volvo today does not look like any other car. When it comes to car design today, no flat or hard surfaces exist. The Volvo used to be like a box and extremely square. We used to just call them the boxes and I did had a few myself, both 142, and 740 and 840 and, Damn I forgot, I did had a 850 standard. Best Volvo I used to have. Not a single luxury item in it though. A 5 cylinder engine Volvo made for both Volvo and Audi 100 Avant and I also had one of those. My last car was an Audi A4 and I do miss it, sometimes, but I do not miss the monthly costs, like €50 in parking, insurances and the year TAX of €20 or whatever it was.

So why did our School hire Timothy Meyers as a teacher in the first place? Light!!!  What he knows about light and light settings, just a few knows, to take down a single light bean in all its components, highlights, not to bright, not to dark but, specularity, contrast, RGB, shadows, you name it, make stuff look as good as possible, with as few light sources as possible and place them at the right spot and angles. We also  had 2 such classes with a real photographer and Timothy also tagged along and it was just amazing seeing them work, no doubt. Still as a person, that is another story. The photographer was an Arab, from Lebanon I think it was, and extremely cool I must add with very cool ideas. I do have photos left from his sessions as I took loads of pictures during his classes. I was extremely impressed. Our job was to copy his work into 3D. I might have something left of that, IDK??

Timothy did teach us how to set up a scene with 3 spots only and mostly, no more is needed he claimed. Cars in the other hand, bounces light all over the place and to get a lot of high lights, require more than 3 spots and I think I had 8-10 spots, in different shapes, lumina, brightness and distances to the object, that red Volvo. In the drilling video, I have 3 sources, but wide, to get more natural light in a room, more realistic, as I sure could add more contrasts in that room but would that be real? IDK? Would it look better and more cool?  YES. What software was we forced to learn? I be back with that another day, I hated that software, still do and I still do not know how it works. All CGI studios is using it, to be able to get that extra flashy light and perfect looking videos or pictures. Well my mind is empty right now.  😮  I love Blender but not that software he wanted us to learn. Everyone in the class hated it and everyone was frustrated. But the result was just amazing, much better than we where able to make with Blender. My 2 videos in my Portfolio is only Blender, well gimp, PS and also another Adobe software for the textures, but still, I did had control.

Those that do learn to use that software, will get very well paid, specially if they manage to make stuff to look good or netter than the original source.

Fallout 3 Show off

I made a couple of videos from Fallout 3 yesterday, wanted to show off the companions abilities for the Voice Actors Club and it became damn good I must add as you never know what will happen around the next corner. This mission that I made myself in GECK is extremely hard, well right now the hardest I ever played in that game, but it is the building itself that is so hard to navigate. I am not sure yet if I will add more stages in the quest, or just leave it this hard? I wanted my VIP companion Sam Colt to show off, to take command and I wanted to show off the dog(s) and the robot. Show off the AI, also show that the companions are so smart in them self, without any special coding from my part, that they also can take the lead. I think I managed to pin everything I had planned down. The Radio do not reach inside that building and that is also extremely immersive. I did make 3 videos, in 3 different locations and I can also show the 2 other ones as well. But this one is best.

I do use Auto-Loot if you wonder. I am to lazy to pick up all that stuff...  I am a vacuum cleaner for sure.

I took a break, played some old Daggerfall, went to bed for nap and 4 hours later, I finally found the door and that was almost hidden. So damn frustrating. I did see 4 doors at the mini map but at which floor? This path is not straight for sure. The door with the quest target is locked and I cannot open it. Of course I can if I cheat, but this is also a beta test for that mission, quest 14 with Sam Colt, so I must check if it is possible to do it or not, before going back to the editor.

I can show the other videos as well. Same in this one, I wanted to show off how Sam Colt handle battles without my help but also show that the player can do great without any companions. Using a companion is just a free choice, nothing else.

The second video was made to show off the exterior and it is a shame I did tun on the camera to late as before this take, Sam Colt did blew up a bus that made me fly all over the place and that was dramatic. He did pass out as well and that is where this take starts:  😄  What is cool here is that the DJ Threedog talks about the Super Mutants. He does talk about the players progress in his radio show, and at one point, we help him to fix his antenna so the radio show expands, by stealing a part from a lunar lander at a museum in D.C.

What is cool with Fallout 3 is also the making of it.

Two Bethesda employees started to take photos all over Washington D.C and security in that town thought they where spies, so they got arrested and had to answer a lot of nasty questions. I do not recall if it was DC police, Secret Service, FBI that caught them but after they got released, they where able to finish the job. Today we do have Google maps as well, but they sure knew how to take photos that might have aided them in the texture work with the game. I do guess it would had been best to tell the authorities about their plans before acting like spies in the US Capitol. Would I be arrested if I did this in Gothenburg? No way. In Moskva? Well executed most likely or sent to Siberia.
