Very strange situation involving sounds

I've run into a very unusual problem with sound that has me *facedesk*.

I built a power and systems room for my bunker player home. In it are a reactor in the middle with control consoles on either side, an alcove for the mainframe, and an alcove for the environmental systems. There are 8 units/control panels all together.

I'm a sound designer, so I wanted to make my mark. Each of the units has its own sound, some of which are from the base game, but the rest are mixes of base game sounds with original ones that I made. Each sound was carefully mixed and balanced in Adobe Audition, then added to the objects as Sounds and remixed in the Geck.

It all came out very well. But then I decided to add a console for the environmental systems. I gave it a new sound and balanced it, giving it the same volume attenuation as the other objects. However, the next time I came into the game, the console sound could be heard, at high volume, throughout the entire bunker! So I went to the console and disabled it, confirming that it was the source of the problem.

I redid the console and sound object from scratch, but the issue persisted. So I took the sounds off of every machine in that area and constructed a single sound object of all the sounds for that area, then placed it on the floor. When I entered the bunker in the game, though, the console sound was blasting throughout the bunker. Not the mix I'd made, but the individual console sound. But that shouldn't be possible!

So I pulled up the save I'd made before working on this part and left it alone to work on again later.

Is that weird or what?!

I don't know what to suggest to be honest, the audio is kind of broken on the PC, the new system introduced by Obsidian is great on the XBox where it works but on the PC the extras appear to be disabled.

@MrPebbles1961

Well if you made changes to the esp, then upload a new version so I can go in and scratch my head, trying to find out how to solve it, as I cannot sit here doing it.

Meanwhile...

As you are a sound designer, I should show you my sounds... 😉   I made a SAGA, cover 2020, and also a Beatles song the same year and I started to play 1974, learned how to play Eleanor Rigby 1978, played Beatles covers in my first band 1979. The SAGA cover is from a song they made 1978. Tired World from the record Saga, their first album and now they made 20 albums, and stil tour. They soon comes here to Gothenburg in November, again but I cannot go and see them, not this time. It has a Fallout Theme really, I uploaded my version to their Facebook Nov 2020, met them later Oct 2022 backstage. Damn that was fun for sure, my life best moment really and they where so damn nice and funny too, which I did not really expect.  😄  Damn, I later walked alone with the Canadian singer Michael Sadler, to his waiting Cab, that was unreal. I still cannot believe it my self  😄 He kept talking no stop, I did not need to say much really.  😉  It was his show, not mine, I only tagged along as he never stopped talking.  😄  They are from Toronto Canada and so are RUSH and they are also friends. The SAGA bassplayer was classmate with RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson, the blah blah man. The SAGA bassplayer also lend his amp to Geddy Lee 1969 as he did not afford one and also played with Alex before that.  😄   Geddy is my pure idol, so is YES, the Rush Singer and bassplayer. Damn he is best. Geddy with Yes, after Yes bassplayer had died, one time performance, he was extremely unique. Chris Squire, No one sounded like him, not even Geddy Lee, but almost.  😉

It could be fun to see what you think about my own sound designs?  😉   Listen to it might also indicate if my voice will ever suit for Voice Acting or not as well. I do hope I will find a good voice actor, but if I do not have any choice, I need to do it myself, or not at all, well...  The player can always skip the voice files as well.  😄  I can make them separate as well?  Well just listen to the crap, and I will peek at your esp as soon as you upload it. I do that no matter what, anyway.

I did NOT have my Marschal here, so the guitar sound is digital effects only. Now I do have a more fat cool sound, and I can show that later if you wanna compare the sounds, but this will do as this is my favorite, it is different as the SAGA keyboardist player Jim Gilmour replied to me.  😄  Well yes it is, and that was the point as well. I do not correct my voice, with any pitch software. I can keep the tone, well I think.  😉  It is sour  at one place though, at least. and I like it, as it sure fits.

So the beatles song, Eleanor Rigby from 1966, Revolver, written by Paul McCartney, but they only used cello and violin in the original. I use much more stuff in my version from 2020. Who loves Beatles?  Well I do. 😄

This is not something many knows really. It is from a german interview with the SAGA bassplayer Jim Crichton, who is retired. I did shake his hand around 2005 though at a gig in South Sweden, me and my GF took the train to Malmö, saw them play at a small club. I did not talk to them back then, just shaked hands with Jim, Ian and their old Drummer. Not with Michael nor Jim Gilmour. All wanted to shake hands with them. Damn it was so crowded suddenly and I stood at the front of the stage, got a bit panict and a bit scared, damn, I did feel like a sardine in a conserved can. I was lucky to be able to get out from there in one piece. :D

I did stand in the front as well 2022, no doubt, but then I was not pressed against the fence.  😄  When I think about it, it was nice to have a fence to lean about as I got ache in my legs these days...  😮  Damn it is not fun to get old...  😕

Here Jim Crichton, Bass SAGA, is talking about the blah blah man.  😄

Saga, Tired World Gothenburg. Just listen to Michael, the best singer in the world.  😮  What a voice:

Much faster than I do it, different. Well that was the whole point, was it not? Making it different in the first place.

A funnier speech than the blah blah blah, is when the Yes keybordnist, Rich Wakeman, had his speech. All others where so damn serious. This is hilarious. Rush was hosts, so they are at the stage here as well. Such a clown  😄  He is nuts. He did play the piano on David Bowies - Life on Marsh - They where neighbors and did hang out a lot.

The game is very picky about file formats and whether the sound is mono or stereo.

I honestly can't keep track of it all since I haven't done too much with sfx, but I *think* a "heard-round-the-world" problem is a fault of the sound being in Stereo format.

@MrPebbles1961I am sorry for all links, now when you have problems, maybe it also is so that you are into some other music too.  😉   I was bored, still am.  😄  I just love music and had fun yesterday listen to all that junk.  😄  Not any music, only the best and most advanced, musicians that do whatever they like to do, instead of following the masses, which Saga, Yes and Rush do.

To get rid of the sound...  Well honestly, load the esp with FNEdit, remove it there as you see much better your own stuff only with that tool. You can also just delete that sound, or rename it. It will not hurt the game and nothing will happen really but it will be quiet. You can also exchange it with a short empty sound with the same filename, at the same place. Of course it is best to remove the form. The thing is, it might be your save file as well.

What happens if you load the game without your esp, make a save, start the game with an edited one? FNV is not as sensitive for unloading or uninstalling mods as F4 is, as that will crash your game most likely, specially if there is scripts that just runs in the air?

Geddy Lee did say in an interview about when he started to make more experimental music. They did act as forebande for KISS around 1975, so Geddy was so excited and did play some music from their first experimental proggressive album, the song, the Necromancer and Paul Stanley just looked at him and said: -What crap is this? Stay simple, play Rock'n'Roll. Paul did not get it. That made Geddy extremely sad. How could Paul do something like that?  Geddy will never forget it. The Necromancer is not an easy song to listen too, it is so dark. Well you have to start somewhere... The sound is not the best and it is extremely dark.  The lyrics are written by the drummer?  Who allows their drummer to write lyrics anyway? Well Rush.  😄

Paul Stanley do say similar at the MTV unplugged. Stay simple, play Rock'n'roll. No wonder a genious like Ace Frehley did leave the band. His songs was best, much better than Paul's ever was. He is still friend with Gene Simmons but not with Paul. Some are just mean...  Gene also saved Ace's life ones, when he almost drowned himself in a bathtub, falling asleep, high as a skyscrape on koks, and booze. He was under the water when Gene found him. He is clean now.

Well I did mention my Marshal?  So when I did listen to the sound, I did came up with an idea. Why not try to do one of Ace's songs? It is so damn hard to sing it, and I did record the verse completely wrong, but I did like it, and kept it. The song is from Ace's first solo album 1978. Is it about snow or coca? Well most likely about coca. I try to sound like him, try to sound high he write his lyrics about stuff he likes and he liked coca and he was friend with John Belushi and those 2 together was higher then highest, every day until John died. Well I am sober doing it as I do not do drugs, ever. I also did try to sound like him doing the solo, dirty loud and Rock'nRoll. Well he is much better guitarist than I will ever be as I cannot play his stuff.

Every modern guitarist did have Ace as idol and he inspired a whole generation to start playing the guitar. No matter which guitar player I listen to in interviews, they all mention Ace Frehley. I still adore his play style. No doubt as it is unique, so is Andy Scott in the Sweet as well, who was before his time. Here I do my tribute, the verses are not the best but I like the Chorus a lot. I did took water over my head when I did record the verses as it did not sing them like he do at them and I had to give it up, save it, release the sh't.  😄  Damn, I love my Marschal. So damn nice: So what do I like best with my recording? The fat sound, as Ace's is not fat. I so not know why he mixed it as he did mix it as he did it himself in his bedroom if I recall it right from his own memo-are book. Damn fun book to read, so extremely nuts. He is an extremely funny guy. No doubt.

I was sold on KISS when I heard this one 1977. I have seen them live 4 times. 1980 a new band did act with KISS, Iron Maiden. I had never heard about those guys before.  😄  Ace wrote that he was so high, he did not play on that record, the producer did and Ace had to learn it later, to be able to play it live. He was high, pissed at Paul, refused to pop up at the studio. Bod Azrin did play the guitars. Gene Simmons bass play is brilliant on that song. We do hear Ace play during the car start at the beginning, from a previous record, called Dressed to Kill, the solo from I wanna rock n roll all night long. I think it was. Maybe Bob did add it, to allow Ace to be on the record at all?  I think so. I do think it was from a live version, IDK...  He was damn good live.

What I do not understand, is how Bob Azrin made the sound for that record. It is pianos in the background and I did try to copy it, tried to mix something that sounds like it, but I failed, Not even close, never. Destroyer  1977 is so unique. I can copy almost every other sound, make my own versions, but never that record. It is a master piece. I still try to figure out how they made it and I fail. I do have a studio education, also owned my own studio 1993-1995, with the band I used to play with. We did play disco and funk at bars, used all money, bought an analog studio, made loads of recordings, like this Beatles tribute that we called, The 60's No computers, no auto, everything live. Right in on old magnetic tape. Oasis was big at this period, we did tried to sound like them, but honestly, we where much better than them.  😄  I loved Beatles, who maybe made the first pop Video ever, in MTV style ever 1967, and I sure did dislike Oasis, but they where really good, no doubt. We also made a song about the war in former Yogoslavia, after the Croats attacked Bosnia. How do a child react during a war?  😮  I really love the part when I play the flute, together with Daniel's whining and crying.  Damn the flute was in the 60's. I play cellos here with Daniel.  :D  We had so different backgrounds, did not get along about many songs. The ones I linked to, is the ones I like to 100%, no doubt. You can also hear it I guess, we are all engaged 100%. Everyone sober, we did not do drugs. We drank bears at our gigs, and that is it. You do play better after one single bear, more relaxed and tight.

This is not a nice person. He is mean. He sings like a god, acts like an ass, Paul Stanley. My sister is in love with him, well I do not like him at all. Just a mean and bad ass. I like his voice a lot. <-- Bob Azrin made the sound here again. Ace is playing, but he hated it.

Well not here for sure: Paul showing off...

I am not a guitarist, I am more a bass player. I do like my funky bass play here and I just got a new bass, just before I recorded this. I did play the bass with the Marshal, added more bass later with free software. A bass in a guitar amp, do not sound fat.

I did NOT auto-pitched my voice, never do, I refuse. I do not hear any sour tunes, not a single one, but that's me. What was hardest, was to make the song at the verse synced, which I did fail to do. That was frustrating and I did try hard to do it.  I was a bit pissed about it really. You either keep the tune and pitch, or you do not sing, that is my motto.  😉

Original I cant play like him...  I just cant...

Of all 4 records KISS made that year, 1978, only one single song became number one listed. I do think that pissed of Paul a lot.  😄  He also did forbid everyone in KISS to talk during the show. Specially after Peter Criss said hello to his friends at some point. Then he decided. One man talk, the rest of you are silent and keep your mouth shut, or you are gonners forever.  😮  Just look at Paul here , when Peter and Ace talks. They are both high as Saturn 5 rockets. You see the hate in his eyes. he is trying to cover it, but he sure hates them and their behaviour. Last interview before they got kicked out. Well peter first, later Ace, which ended in Violence as Ace did attack his double ganger, hit him very badly before he left. His double ganger took care of Aces guitars and was his personal technician and played with KISS until 2023.

I did find the complete interview, that got Peter kicked and later Ace...   😮  What Peter did say was true. Ace wrote about how aggressive Peter was later in his book, starting fights, punched weitresses and other odd and bad stuff. Extremely violent and also dangerous. I could not believe it when I read it some years ago.  😮

Ace is sober here. Interesting facts..  😉

That's a good point. I always save in WAV format, which all of the base game & DLC files are, but their sample and bit-rates vary. I'll go back and look at the base-game sounds and see what they are and re-mix mine to that. I may also have forgotten to mono-ize all of mine, so I'll do that, too. Thanks!

@Radioactivelad I followed your suggestion and went back and re-exported all my new sounds to the game standard for fx, 32 kHz, mono, 16-bit, .wav. It does seem to have helped a bit, but not entirely. I'm still hearing one sound, with the same settings as the sounds that work right, all the way down the hall to the entrance but, thankfully, not nearly as loud. I'm going to need to look at how other, similar sounds are attenuated and see what's different about them. But thanks for setting me on the right path.
