Hard drive recommendations for Inspiron 3505 laptop

Recommended Posts

Hello again everyone, what hard drives would you yall reccomend for modding and such, as last time I tried moving my mods and Fo4 to a new storage it was unable to run a modded Fo4 with the mods, after i tried putting them in the same and diffrent storages. would modded fallout 4 not work if I move all the files into a seperate storage, or could i just use any hard drive that will fit into my laptop

my laptop supports a 2.5 in. hard drive and im also curious if I could use the hard drive connecter as a SSD connector as ssd is faster than mechanical HDD

The way vortex deploys mods is via hard links, or sym links.... If you move all the files and such around, those break. Need to uninstall/reinstall the game and your mods for that to work properly. And just as an aside, installing games OUTSIDE the program files folders is a GREAT idea.....

And yes, you can install any 2.5 inch SATA SSD in place of your mechanical drive. I recommend the Samsung guys. They cost a bit more, but, better warranty, and longevity that the cheap fellers. Going to an SSD from an HDD is the single best upgrade you can do for your laptop.

A mod manager using symlinks with no way to rebuild symlinks?    Odd.

That is an awful lot of work to basically rebuild your entire setup - just because you had a hardware failure or you wanted to migrate to a new system.

There is obviously something I'm not understanding (I hope) with how Vortex works.

it took me hours but i managed to get fallout and mods to work on the ssd and all i had to do was

  1. install the ssd while panicing that i would break my laptop and make it stop working
  2. uninstall vortex (purged mods first)
  3. install vortex and fo4 into the new drive
  4. downgrade and install f4se
  5. enabled all mods
  6. play
