The level cap should be raised to 40 with Mothership Zeta

Hey all,

I'm still poking around Point Lookout a bit before I get ready to start a new character. However, I've been topped out at lvl 30 for the past three weeks or more, so there's not as much of a sense of accomplishment other than just filling in the map and doing all the quests. It's true, they are fun, but I miss the ch-ching! of an XP bump and watching the little meter rise! The gameplay doesn't seem to have the same thrill without that. There are SO many Perks I'd like to try! I know that I can choose them on the next character, but it would be nice to see how they work, before I commit to them at a much earlier stage.

Given the breadth of all the DLC's, I think it would be a wise move to raise the level cap to 40. I did a LOT of exploring by the time I started on the main storyline Quests, and by the time I got around to Operation Anchorage, The Pitt and Broken Steel I was already lvl 27. My skills were such that these areas didn't present as much of a challenge, so I look forward to doing them at an earlier level.

However, this likely means that by the time I start finishing the main quests, I'll be tapped out XP-wise and I'll be finishing just to finish. I like being the good guy, so I already know how it's gonna end! I'll definitely avoid sleeping and doing any of the side quests that earn XP as well as caps like the Pre-War books and Scrap Metal just so that I can prolong my character's growth. In this game, the journey is definitely more important than the destination.

I doubt Bethesda will do it, but I would be a lot more motivated to thoroughly explore all the DLC areas and do all the quests if there was XP to be found as well as goodies.

What do y'all think?

I agree, although probably not for the same reason. I just think it would keep players happier to have a lot more levels. Whether it should allow you more perks or higher skills is debatable.

If you're going to go beyond 30, you may as well allow 3 or 4-digit levels, and you need to ramp up the difficulty of enemies proportional to the level. That's because people who expect high levels expect to have their skills measured with supreme challenges, and any related difficulties are less important than that aspect of the game.

I'd agree only if the skill cap was raised. My character on the 360 is level 30 and maxed out in all but 2 skills. I'd be in trouble after 2 level ups.

I think its quite obvious in Broken Steel that they were really running out of ideas for perks.

I agree lol. Deep sleep? Really beth? Ugh whatever.

I dont see why they bothered to put a level cap on it anyways, its not a multiplayer rpg.

When the game first came out I got to level 20 in no time, didnt realize there was even a level cap until I sneak attacked some raider and didnt get any exp for it. I was like "wtf? wheres my bread for that kill?" Shortly after I realized there was a level cap, and I was not happy lol.

Level caps in a free play rpgs like this bug me.

But hey thats just my opinion, Im probably going to downlaod that Wasteland Mastery and Level Cap workout stuff mentioned in the previous posts lol. Tired of resetting my level back to 29 through the console haha.

Same. I like old fallouts, where you could grow skills past 100, with each raise costing more and more skill points and giving diminishing return. It really felt like you were mastering the damn thing, simply polishing your sniping skills off because, let's face it, no one cared about gambling. :P
