Page limit?

Is there a limit to how long the long descriptions in a mod can be? I am asking this because every time I try to add text to one that I am writing - it cuts it off when it gets longer then a certain amount of characters. This REALLY sucks for me. I am 3/4 of the way through it, but it won't let me save it past a certain point!

If this is true, it seems to be limited to 62,892 characters. If I can't get an extension, I am going to have to delete my long description and upload it as a readme . I don't want to do that because I would lose all of the formatting and colors I used in BBcode.

Any special people I should talk to that can make a exception for me? Maybe Dark0ne or Buddah?

At the moment yes, the character limit is 64k, which is what the MySQL "text" field accounts for. The next field up, "mediumtext" allows 16M characters but will however increase the MySQL database size and memory allocation as a result, which is something I'm not willing to do at the moment. You'll need to work on making your description more concise, as 64k characters is a lot to expect anyone to read.

What mod is this for?

Another more popular option would be to have everything in your readme text file (which is not limited by the site) and attach it using the "Add Readme" feature of the mod page. Provide a summary of the mod which will contain the majority of what most people read to determine if they want to download it or not and then grab the direct URL (Example: Lost Paladins of the Divines Readme) and add it to the end of your description...like a "click here for more information" link.

The path to the readme url remains permanent even if you update the readme multiple times.

Thanks for the suggestion. Id just like to point out a quote that was misleading to me on the site:

Long description:

Provide as much detailed information as possible in regards to your file.

This can be seen if you hover your mouse over the "!" next to the box to edit the long description. To me, it says I can write for as long as I want to describe my file and use as many words as possible. There is no mention or even thought of a limit. Could this be changed to be less misleading?

In the time that I have been here, I have seen over 30,000 descriptions.....this is the first one to ever question the size limit. Yes I do read each one, well most of them....there comes a point where even I will say TLDR and call it good.

You contradict yourself. The "as possible" is in reference as to how much the page can possibly hold...which you have determined the limit as to what "is possible." With computers and the Internet, there is no real thing as "no limit" as everything is finite. Even the amount of space on the server for you to upload is finite.

Okay, I worded that wrong. The reason it seems misleading is that you give a maximum for the short description and you don't give a set limit for the long description. It is held loosely with a "as possible limit". I figured that there would be enough room for what I needed, but I was wrong. If I was told that there was a 64K limit, I may have rethought the extent of my idea.

I understand that I am doing something unorthodox, and I shouldn't try to blame you guys for any oversight or problems I have or make. The idea that you might want to tell users about the 64K limit would probably only apply to me, and it seems weird changing something that will only confuse people.
