No I'm not.

But I should, yet my dad is telling me that it will do no good. My mom had, let's call it problems, and the psychiatrist didn't improve her situation, yet still the money went away. I also had a problem with a teacher who was also a psychiatrist. He was from Serbia, and without telling too much, he knew I had ADD and wanted to use me to get money. In the end dad had to do some talking and managed to send him to another school.

I really want to go, Cognitive Behavior Therapy would definitely help me. I'll try and convince my dad, but he's always 'You have to help yourself, because nobody else will'.

I'd also like to tell my teachers at school about everything so they make it a bit easier for me, but dad is doing his thing again.

Not all psychiatrists are idiots, some are but most aren't. The psychiatrists helped me a lot with my problems, I've been to a lot of them, started going when I was 7. Explain to your dad that you want to go see a shrink, pressure him with it enough and he'll break. Either that or you'll stay messed up for the rest of your life, no offence.

And don't always listen to your parents, they might think they know what's best for you but in most cases they don't. And don't ever let them run your life, ignore them if they try. I severed all connections to my parents the moment I turned 18, haven't seen them or talked to them since then and I have no intention to do so in this lifetime. I must say, my life is much better without them.

Don't get it wrong, dad's only trying to help me. He's a godsend when it comes to that. But sometimes, I think he's trying too much and not seeing the answer in front of him. I'll see about the psychiatrist.

And it depends on the type of person if I would stay messed up for the rest of my life or not. I'd rather not risk that.

I got myself a new self help book, which people say does wonders. I enjoy reading those kinds of books anyway, so why not.

I'll read it and if it doesn't help then I'll do the thing with the psychiatrist.

Thanks for the suggestion.

And goodnight everybody, I'll try and go sleep.

Iv000, tell your dad that strangers on the internet think you are right. :teehee:

But in all seriousness, I think if there's a chance it could help you, given your mother's issues, you should definitely find a way to get that help even if you have to go to a relative outside the nuclear family to assist with the money situation.

My only advice for choosing a shrink is: make sure they explain exactly what any medication given to you is going to do, even if it's just aspirin, so that you can make the decision. And if you don't understand, then ask again. If they won't tell you anything there's a red flag right there. Here in the states some psychiatrists just prescribe willy nilly and keep their patients in a cloud rather than do any actual counseling.

That's what happened to my best friend (He's in the US as well). He got Methylene prescribed and it makes him go emo. Doctor doesn't give a f.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind as well. I'm not thinking to take meds though. Unless they're 'normal' ones, like aspirin or something easy. I'm taking a big distance around Ritalin or similar.

And I trust strangers on the internet a lot actually. I see when something is foul or not and I'm intelligent enough not to go into a free candy van.

Goodnight now.
