Considering to buy a 6800GT

Okay, I have a 6600GT right now but I feel that I will need a 6800GT for new titles such as Oblivion.

I have looked around on various sites for a 6800GT and the price is very different on different sites.

The cheapest 6800GT I found was this:

ASUS V9999GT/TD 128 MB.

Price: 300 USD / 171,47 GBP / 354,64 CAD / 253,77 EUR

Is this a good price for a 6800GT?

EDIT: patiently waiting for MB to show up :P

well im happy with my 6800gt

but its gainward golden sample so it got speed beyond 6800ultra

so its kinda hard to compare..

generally i would go with Nforce

for example it supports ps3 and radoen dosent :)

Well, actually Radeon supports PS3.0 cause the new Radeon X1800 Series were released and shipped today!

To get back to the subject, is this a good price for a 6800GT?

Im not that very good with prices and stuff.

Oh, and welcome to the forums Vincent!

It's my experience that you get what you pay for. If you get the cheapest 6800 on the market, it's not going to be the best of the bunch (and can often be worse than getting the best-lower variant).

I don't follow nVidia closely since I'm an ATi man myself.

I have read a few reviews on it and it seems to be a good card.

ASUS is known to make good quality graphics cards according to my friend who is an asus fanatic :D

I think that there will be a rather big difference if I change to this card. My 6600GT has 8 pipelines (if I'm correct) and the 6800GT has 16 pipelines.

I bought the cheapest 6600GT when it was released, an XFX6600GT, it has worked fine and I have overclocked it form 500 to 600 Mhz :)

To my understanding, ASUS has tried a few shady things with their V9999 cards. Approach with caution.

ATi is very much an option here, judging by the only person in this thread who can offer an opinion to the contrary.

generally i would go with Nforce

Do your suggestions on mainboard chipsets relly have a place in this conversation?

for example it supports ps3

How can a mainboard chipset support pixel shading? Besides that, don't you realize that PS 3.0 doesn't improve visual quality at all versus PS 2.0? It's just an ugly hack made into a marketing gimmick by the same people at nVidia that brought us the GeForce FX series.

and radoen dosent

Why are you comparing a mainboard chipset with a video card?

I wholeheartedly recommend the 6800GT. At least the 256MB one. I don't know what sort of performance the 128MB would give.

Still, it sounds like it will give you a fairly significant boost. I got my card for around £250, so £171 might be a little pricey for one roughly half its capacity. I'd recommend Ebuyer.co.uk but I don't know if they ship overseas, or what they would charge if they did. You can get a 6800GT 128MB there for £140, though. And that's with VAT. (Link)

Why? Do you know somewhere better? I've never had any problems with them really, and they offer the best prices from what I've seen.
