i have just bought oblivion GOTY version and put the first disk in the autoplay works but after allowing it atfer the vista account thing asks me if i trust it or not it does nothing , i have tried opeining the files from the autoplay and running the setup from there but it still wont even bring the install up at all, my laptop is an acer aspire 6930 and as far as i know the specs are well above minimum,

when i insert the disk is starts the music off then the account control comes up asking me if i trust it or not i say allow then the musiz goes dead and nothing happens yet if i take the disc out straight away it tells me it cant do it because there is not disk in the drive it says this loads of times in a row then a 'set exe has stopped working' comes up when it never even started, what is wrong ?

Have you tried it when User Account Control is turned off? Or try the disc on a different pc if that's possible.

yea ive tried with AC off and with fire wall off and also c&p the file contents onto my hard drive then setup from there same result cleaned my temp files as someone said to do woith another bioshock same situation just wioth bioshock that never worked, dunno if my drivers need updating or not but thought as this laptop is new model then it would have appropriate drivers, i have no error msg or anything it just fails to get to the install screen the tells me off when i take the disk out like 20 mins later, as for your second suggestion i havent got another windows comp my other comp well my dads is linux and wont run it i dont think.

after searching the net i found a identical problem but for a different game (tombraider 2) on that forum someone suggested disabling DEP (Data Execution Prevention) it also provided a link to the tombraider wiki which explained how to do this but it never worked it told me after typing what was said on this link: http://www.tombraiderwiki.com/index.php/DEP

that ' the boot configuration data store could not be opened , access is denied' i am the admin how can it denie me access ? does anyone know how to disable or where i can at least allow privledges like oblivion as it says can be done , to bypass it as it sounds like my best chance ?

Let DEP alone, what you can't disable is the system things there.

Install your game at any location outside the Program files folder (Like eg: C:\Games\) ... this must be enough and should be done to every game you install (that Program Files folder is treated with 'high security' by Vista (assuming you really are under an administrative account)).

Disabling UAC is something that shouldn't be done since may create problem with applications which expect it (mainly MS applications)... You decide

i would happily install it somewhere other than programme files iif i could install it , my problem is that when i auto run from the cd or manully run the setup.exe the timer goes around like its doing somthing but nothing happens, the exe is still running in the processes when i use ctrl alt dele, i have waited ages for it and still nothing i take the disk out and it goes off it with me

yes im running it all as admin both the account and the run this as admin option, also disabling UAC has no affect neither did the DEP, as said the process is in the windows manager on the cntrl alt del, but somthing is blocking it , at the moment i am transfering all my files that i want such as pics music ect to disks then im gunna restore back to factory settings to get rid of any other programmes installed that might be blocking it

Have you got any firewalls or antivirus software running? I've never encountered any problem installing GOTY on vista 32/64 in or outside of the default install path.

i tried it with the firewall off and also im sure i tried it with comodo internet security off as well although comodo never usualy prevents things it asks me whether i want to allow it or not and i just tell it to treat it as a trusted install or apllication it then goes into 'install' mode which to my knowledge stops the security stopping installs, i think the revert to factory settings will be the best option as i used to be able to install rome total war but i got a virus later and i think i over reacted and installed to many anti virus programmes and never uninstalled them properly
