Marxist ßastard
I think that "unconstructive messages posted with the intent of harassing those who hold an opinion" would be an agreeable definition of flaming. Wading through the mounds and mounds of sarcasm that make up his post, I see that Stampede paints a vivid picture of a group of people whose primary complaints include that the game should revert back to the Daggerfall engine, a protest that they post in all-caps -- as scathing an insult as it is mature. The constructiveness of the thread is quite a murky little area indeed. I cannot for the life of me determine if a thread whose first post reads "people who hate Oblivion are morons; discuss" is worth its salt.
Stampede
"people who hate Oblivion are morons; discuss" is worth its salt.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> If I offended you in anyway MB, then I am sorry. But please show me where I said that anyone was a moron for not looking forward to Oblivion? I merely found it interesting that in all the hype, there was quite a strong opposing view. Dark0ne
Ok, reading through the first post I felt neither insulted nor attacked. Personally I don't like the concept of the quest compass, the loss of spears or the general dumbed down feeling suggested by Stampede. I didn't feel threatened by being called an "old salt". To me, the thread is blatently saying "Some people don't like the sound of Oblivion" and then asking "Do you have any problems with Oblivion". I believe I am correct in saying what this thread is. It wasn't hard to read-into what Stampede was getting at. The constructiveness of the thread is quite a murky little area indeed. I cannot for the life of me determine if a thread whose first post reads "people who hate Oblivion are morons; discuss" is worth its salt. Ok, you keep pondering that one, while the rest of us (who were able to understand the point of the thread) discuss the negative aspects of Oblivion. Malchik
Seems to me MB you are the one doing the flaming! Apart from my humorous comment about getting a life my post was devoid of sarcasm and said quite factually that it is perverse to get excited about something on the basis of rumour alone. Such things led to lynchmobs in the past and riots in UK cities even as we speak.
Peregrine
The main issue for me is how much stuff has been dropped for no good reason. Spears, staves as weapons, etc. All these are basic weapons (spears being the most common weapon in Morrowind's historical equivalent!), and it makes no sense to leave them out. Or to stick axes in blunt weapons, or put daggers and claymores under the same skill. And don't say it would take too long to include them, that's just an excuse. I'd much rather have Oblivion released a month or two later with all the dropped weapons than get it faster with less included.
loveme4whoiam
*Adds seperated skills to the list of things a modder will do the second he gets the CS" This thing just keeps on growing. The magic of the PC version (sorry Xboxers) is that all the complaints listed here (except maybe the issue of dumbing down, which I too think is unpardonable in any game) can all, and will all be resolved by modders, and we the community can chose whether we want to change them for ourselves. I think its a bit strange that old salts of the game (I don't see why this is derogatory by the way) are complaining about this sort of thing since they must know that it'll be changed/fixed as soon as the game comes out. To echo Malchik, it is only a game, and a game that'll be changed more ways than we can count.

Staves are in....just....Different... That's my point. You can't hit things with them, no matter how unrealistic it is. I want something like a quarterstaff, hit them with magic at range, then beat their heads in if they get close.
Marxist ßastard
*Adds seperated skills to the list of things a modder will do the second he gets the CS... All the complaints listed here [can] and will... be resolved by modders.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> The developers have stated multiple times that, as in Morrowind, it will be impossible to add new skils.
