PC Graphics are getting better and better.

FPS above 30 do matter, it was once explained to me, because when one is moving and turning rapidly, the more frames that are rendered, the more likely you are to catch that enemy or obstacle or whatever. Think of it this way: You get to choose one lotto ticket out of 100, and there's one winner in there. Would you rather choose out of just 30, 60, or the full 100? ;)

:/ Dude, not a great example. I would rather have a one in 30 chance of winning then a one in one hundred. That's LESS of a chance. A better example would be taking more cards. You have more of a chance of winning if you have 60 versus 30.

Also, once you get to a certain amount of FPS it actually becomes worse because the screenw ill start tearing. On my ancient monitor I will take 75 fps thanks. :P

Ah, I thought I mentioned: the winner's guaranteed to be in the full set, but if you choose from the smaller sets, the winner might not be in there at all. ;) Let's try a new one! It's like trying to pick the ace of hearts out of a deck of cards: limiting yourself to the first 30 cards in the deck is going to reduce your chance of getting the ace, which just might be card #31.

How long do you think it will be before we see games with the pure scope of Oblivion with the graphics of Crysis? I can't even imagine it. Not to mention how good your PC would need to be to run it. Thoughts, comments, concerns?

Right now, in Morrowind?

All in-game shots. ;)

Nope. :P Not right now in Morrowind.

Compare

with

See the difference? I certainly hope so.

It looks pretty, sure. But it simply is NO WHERE near Crysis. Gameplays a hell of a lot better, but crysis has physics, shadows for EVER object, soft shadows, motion blur, depth of field (Okay, that's in MGE too, but not NEARLY as good) and high resoloution textures. Almost none of those are in morrowind, plus the models are VERY low poly.

So it will be a long time before we see a game like Morrowind with Crysis like graphics I think. :P

Dude! What mods are you using? :woot:

They aren't all my shots, but most people use the latest SVN version of MGE along with a couple of shaders for it.

Here are a few people are working on:

Water (WIP)

Water with waves

Sun shafts shader

SSAO shader

There are lots of bloom/HDR shaders out there too like Truebloom.

And grass. It actually moves with the wind too.

There's also a Depth of Field shader but at the moment it's a bit too sensitive for normal gameplay IMO.

I'm using Connary's texture replacers. Unfortunately these are not available at the moment because he took them down in preparation of his grand compendium release which will replace all textures which is coming 'soon'.

See the difference? I certainly hope so.

Of course.

It's far from Crysis. But the recent advancements in Morrowind Graphics Extender shaders are amazing, especially considering we're talking about a 2001 game here which is still running in the same engine. It even beats Oblivion by miles in many areas: Better distant land, better water, sun shafts, depth of field, SSAO, and snow and rain that doesn't go through objects.

But someone's working on a pretty nice head replacer/addon too: Redguard

Morrowind's 'depth buffer' was discovered recently. I have no idea what that means exactly, but nobody was able to find it before and it allows for lots of shaders like depth of field that wasn't possible before. So a lot of shader related stuff is going on at the Bethesda Morrowind Modding forums at the moment.

The snow and rain doesn't go through objects?!?! I have to admit, although I may have seemed negative in my last post, that this is all REALLY impressive. Those waves (except for in shallow water), and the sun shafts really do make the game a lot better then oblivion. Oblivion needed texture replacements anyway to not look like crap, and the water was just crap under any circumstance. With some model overhauls and possibly a better fighting system I can see Morrowind getting a lot of attention back. It's really incredible what the community has been able to do for this game.

All I care about graphics is lighting (and possibly with little effects) and a good but not so complicated/highly detailed textures.

As long the textures and lighting isn't really bad, and the game have excellent gameplay, I still want the game even at today's technology.

Example

http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/kotorpc_112103_000_640w.jpgIt maybe isn't really good, but you're looking at one of the best games of all time !

I loved great graphics in art than great graphics technically.

It's a feature of the Morrowind Code Patch, which also fixes tons of other engine bugs like unarmored not working unless you wear at least 1 piece of armor.

and possibly a better fighting system

WIP Better Battles

There's a lot more going on like a site coming where you'll be able to upload your character to straight from the game, and WIP animation replacers... I think I'll create a separate MW thread before I derail this one any further. :)
