Thinking of Abadoning Requiem

I think a lot of people have an unrealistic idea of archery these days thanks to things like the Avengers, Hunger Games, and Arrow (best show on television). It's not something just anyone can pick up and be good at, and the idea of a single arrow outright killing someone is just ludicrous. The strength and stamina it requires to pull a bowstring at all is significant. The effort required to actually result in a shot powerful enough to do any lasting damage is immense - more than the average person is able to achieve without huge amounts of training and practice. It's a hell of a workout. That's why the crossbow was invented - to deliver a powerful ranged attack that takes little to no training or physical endurance to pull off.

Many people also don't realise that no archer, in any era or line of work, would carry a quiver of 100+ arrows. The standard amount was generally 24 for infantry, and 48 for cavalry. And no one used them in close combat either, no matter how many badasses you see in movies and on TV bashing people in the face, or parrying melee weapons with their bow.

But Requiem *does* take the training needed to be a threat with a bow into consideration!

Tried shooting an arrow without a perk in archery?

Well, it actually pretty well reflects my only attempt at wielding a Combat Bow so far: I could pull the string like twice, without hitting the target, and afterwards couldn't use that arm for the rest of the day, lol.

So, an archer in Requiem is always someone who actually has experience with a bow.

Still, the medical argument is valid. One measly arrow should NOT kill someone, regardless if they wear cloth, light or heavy armor.

I did. At low level I had trouble killing some enemies so out of frustration I tried a bow I had looted recently: boom 1-shot kill, beginner skill and zero perks. From then on I carry around a bow and still use it to great effect with only the first perk selected now. Like I said: overpowered.

It is fairly easy to draw a bow that can put an arrow completely through a human torso. A compound bow is easier still. Most states only have a 35lb draw requirement for deer hunting; a man sized animal. Many, many 12 and 13 year-olds have taken deer with a bow. And, most animals taken with bows are taken with just one shot, simply because they bolt and you don't get a second shot, or they drop on the spot from shock. Its obvious that no one discussing 1-shots here has hunted with a bow. Most animals die shortly after being hit from either suffocation or blood loss. Yes, even with an arrow "plugging" the wound. Dressing an animal will show you just how easy it is to die from internal bleeding. If you want to argue against mob 1-shots, pick something real, like accuracy. Simple buck fever will make a stationary hunter miss a stationary target at close range. Skyrim bandits are miraculous archers, able to run around and sling taunts while picking you off on a dead run. Its like their archery is computer controlled or something.

Well most of the time i'm thinking about mass battle scenes from movies where arrows massacre the advancing armies but as you point out, they are still shows

i don't know the exact workings when one gets hit by one arrow, but one to the abdomen would tear your organs, cause internal bleeding and perhaps leakage of acidic juice used for digestion (no really i mean it) which i believe would lead to quick (mind you not instant) death, which is simulated by a one shot kill in the game cuz honestly i don't think skyrim has an extensive bleed out mechanic

yea axes can give bleeding damage (i don't know if its in vanilla but i have it in my perk tree) but that more simulates the bleeds from the cuts and slashes you get during fighting

i will not argue with you on the power part, but i thought the crossbow was invented because traidional bows took too long to train and given the times, the kings could not have farmers going through extensive training to use them bows, hence the popularity of the easy load point and shoot mechanic of crossbows

A lot of people abandon Requiem because it is incredibly harsh at low levels. I know because I did that once. I played for a couple hours, though "this is impossible," uninstalled, and switched back to SkyRe (which has a lot of great features and new perks, my favorite being the timed blocking).

I was happy with this for a while, but after a while I realized that my player characters were getting really OP, really fast. Challenges were hard to come by. As a result, I resolved to give Requiem another go. I threw in a couple combat mods with it, like Ultimate Combat to keep my timed blocking, and got down to business.

Requiem requires extremely diligent gameplay and the knowledge that the PC might not have the power needed to clear X dungeon or complete Y quest. Once you understand this, you're ready for Requiem- The Roleplaying Overhaul. My current character is now level 30, and is starting to be a formidable opponent for many of the beligerents scattered across Skyrim.

At first, everyone around you will seem OP. You'll have to avoid anyone with a 2H weapon, heavy armor, or bow. But if you use your surroundings cleverly and know when you simply have to come back at a higher level, you can be successful in Requiem.
