Gifts4Kids

Inspired by Emma's excellent Children of Morrowind mod, and Miriamel's thread.

Everyone who has played Fallout 3 has seen them: Little toy cars, nuka cola trucks, teddy bears, etc. Now maybe your character never grew up and likes to collect these things, but why not make someone else happy with it?

Demonstration Video! (play in full screen to be able to read the dialogue)

Gifts4Kids allows you give a range of toys and other items to kids. This is what you can give to them at the moment:

  • Baseball gloves/balls
  • Baseball bats
  • Baseball caps
  • BB Gun
  • Chessboards
  • Basketballs
  • Harmonicas
  • Grognak the Barbarian Comics
  • Lunch Boxes
  • Nuka Cola
  • Nuka Cola Trucks
  • Teddy Bears
  • Toy Cars

You can give a kid one gift a day. Gifts can be given to any kid in the game, no matter where they're from: Mods, DLCs, it doesn't matter. It should work for everyone. The dialogue was created using the original children voice files, which will allow this mod to merge seamlessly into your game. The lip-syncing is not always perfect, but close enough I think.

There is also some variety in the responses you get from the kids: If you give two kids the same gift, they don't always thank you the same way. Boys don't like teddy bears as much as girls do. But everyone loves Nuka-Cola Trucks! :D

The video is slightly outdated. There are more items you can give now and there will be a small karma boost when you give something (but only 1 karma boost per kid, and not much) and there's a small chance that a kid will give something small in return like a bobby pin, a simple food item, etc.

So how far along am I? All the dialogue for the above mentioned items have been added, and the dialogue involving the kids giving something back as well. What's left to do is adding the 1 time karma boosts, adding a slightly larger variety of gifts FOR the player, and some other minor things. I'm hoping to release this in a few weeks.

Of course, feel free to post suggestions for other items to add, or anything else. :)

Thank you for updating me on this, Povuholo. I remember reading this a long time ago and eventually forgot about it. I like the idea and I've downloaded the modification. I'll endorse it at the appropriate time. Thanks again.
