Dark0ne
I've always prefered online games that contain objectives to achieve than layman "find the enemy and kill them" games. Games like Day of Defeat and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. And then if I want a "find the enemy and kill them" game I choose skilled ones like games from the Delta "You just got sniped by a person 2 miles away on that mountain" Force series. Ever played any of the DF games, Archer? Black Hawk Down or Land Warrior? Excellent online play IMO.
Switch
Hmmm... THE best? Probably close between UO (just because it was my first online game, and it had a good RP community on Europa) and WoW. FPS multiplay is fun occasionally (like HL2:DM) but I tend to prefer MMORPGs. loveme4whoiam
I was fairly late to the online party, so I have little experience with MMORPGs. I liked EVE though, so I'd say that that's the best of that category since I tried WoW (not EQ2, PC's too rubbish) and found it a bit naff. As for other online play, I'd say Battlefield 2. I have the same desire to have some kind of mission to complete that Dark0ne talks about - running about in corridors twitch-shooting never really caught my interest. HL2:DM was fun for a while, although that was mainly because of the novelty of chucking radiators at other people. BF2 gives you the feeling of being in a proper team, fighting to complete an objective, especially when on a 64-player map - it synthesises the effect of warfare on a sclae much larger and better than any other game I've played. I'd like to give Planetside a go, since it sounds like (if certain bugs and gameplay issues were sorted out) it would give the bets of both worlds, like World War II Online, which never took off the way it deserved. VaanicOne
At the moment, it's EVE Online. Before that, it was Black Hawk Down. And before that it was Diablo 2.

Povuholo
Morrowind! oh wait that isn't online. Well i haven't played that many online games but i've played tibia for a long time, i still log in every now and then. And faldon, but that's not so great. I'm also playing on one of the largest pet sites, neopets. Not that active there anymore though. I also played Runescape for a VERY short time. One more game, this time not an rpg, Bzflag. Shooting each other with tanks, with some bonus items to grab on the field like laser and guided missile :) But atm i'm more focused on a few games i played years ago. Old games like Bermuda Syndrome (1995) and Cartooners. (older than me, 1989). And a dutch game that helps you learn maths. Not useful anymore for my age since it's hardest level got multiplications, but it's nice to see old games back and recognise things.
Gabbemaster
I think Conquer Online. Because it's free, and the combat system is genius.
