Veraaloe5
Actually I did 'hate it so much' and cancelled my account (and this after playing beta and after purchasing the early access version)I will not go into detail but have to say that I never before gave up on a MMORPG before without playing it at least for a few months. This is the first one which became unbearable.I have played MMORPG's for 30 years and am an avid player.I now went back to Skyrim since there is so much extra added to it and starting it again from scratch and enjoying it. kleinstaff
Why is it a Wow clone? You claim so but provide no proof. Is it because it's a MMO RPG where you adventure and do quests? Because if so, WoW didn't do it first. *shocked gasp* Explain further? It's perfectly doable solo, I only teamed up with friends once during the beta. You just gotta be cautious and have the right gear. To play together, explore, have fun and be social with friends? To share rewards? Because it's an MMO. You're meant to play with people. Honestly, if you hate it so much, don't play it. it is a clone in all respect it game concepts are the same , you grind your quests , get new gear and level up and you keep doing this forever , there is no ridk there is little use of initiative the whole game world is prechewed and scripted for you , only thing you need to do is clixk your mouse buttons and pay your subscription feeWoW was one of the first succesful themepark MMO s and still is considered the bench mark for all other mmos that came afterwardsi have no preblem with the gameconcept of these games , if people want to play in a themepark fine , let them have funBut to blatantly copy game mechanics from other games , with some minor changes and give the map TES related names , for me is just lame and sounds for me the developers had no imagination whatso so everi ve said this many times in other post but they had the chance to create something really unique in the world of mmo s , but instead they went with a concept that has been done over and over again and people realy getting tired of it

First of all - WoW was not the first MMO. But you are right, it set the benchmark for other MMOs. But didn't you just describe every RPG ever? Skyrim, ESO and WoW both have quests, you get new gear in all three of those games and you level up in all three games. By your logic, Skyrim is a WoW copy then. You have no problem with them, yet you slam ESO for doing so? You're a hypocrite. The locations... I can't argue with you, you just sound stupid. The maps are LOCATIONS in Tamriel, therefore, they have the names from lore. Shock horror, I know right? I think they did. There is no set linear path for your class, you have do much roleplaying, the crafting system is now risky and fun at the same time, the game is actually a challenge, adventure and exploration to do, lots of content and chatter from the NPCs, and it's clearly something done for fans of the series. So if you don't like MMOs, don't play it. Simpl

You don't have to take every skill and become a stereotypical warrior, assassin, healer or paladin, you can make it different. WoW was not the first MMO and there is a reason why genres exist. Stealth games are all the same mechanically but are they all Thief rip-offs? No. No disrespect intended, but your arguments are very poor.
Dahveed
I think you guys are being a bit too harsh on Kleinstaff, because I totally understand his general point of view, even if his argument is perhaps flawed. I both agree and disagree with what he is saying, just as I both agree and disagree with the counter-arguments others have made. I have tried quite unsuccessfully in the past to try MMORPGs other than WoW, trying games like Rift and SWtoR, but I just couldn't really get into them at all because they seem to follow the same old MMORPG formula of "do quests, get gear, level up". Sure you can mess around with how crafting works, you can add voice acting, unique quests, new graphics, all the bells and whistles... but at the end of the day the name of the game is progression and getting to the end game. One of the biggest disappointments for me in WoW was when Cataclysm came along and basically uber-nerfed the entire planet of Azeroth in all zones and all dungeons. Nothing was fun or challenging anymore in the levelling, no rewards, no challenge, no fun no excitement.... All npc mobs died in 2-3 hits regardless of gear, spec or talents, so it made EVERYTHING you did before end level (80, 85, 90 orwhatever) completely irrelevant and the only goal was to get it done as quickly as possible. Unfortunately a lot of MMOs have clones this approach, so that when I played Rift I was immediately bored... I lasted about 2 hours before I fell asleep on my keyboard, all I was doing was (as Kleinstaff said) clicking your mouse button on your action bar on a predetermined path. If he feels that ESO is copying this formula to some extent and doesn't feel innovative enough, he does have that right... What makes Skyrim amazing is that right from level 1 with no gear no talents no health or magika you can adventure, have fun, be challenged and find exciting and interesting immersion everywhere... But I think what he is talking about is exactly the kind of thing I feared: that while playing ESO it will just feel like a mechanical "level up" process rather than an adventure. I hope he's wrong and you guys contradicting him are right, but I totally get what he is saying.
Bloodinfested
Anyone claiming it to be a WoW clone hasn’t played it or maybe doesn't understand wow, I got roughly over 100 ppl that came from WoW now permanently in eso in just one guild im in that would express their opinion of the game.its more accurate to say its more like DAoC witch is high parsing it since that was the best pvp system ever created in an mmo. Obviously anyone who dislikes mmos will dislike it and bash it to no end/reason but overall no denying that its a great mmo. I really like the character advancement witch is more inline to Daggerfall and Arena for those actual tes fans...... what a concept picking a class that is meaningful unlike Skyrim witch utterly destroyed the class system all together in tes. Bethesda tries to redesign a game every time and sometimes they succeed in areas and others is just epic fail hopefully they will learn from their mistakes next game, maybe they can also learn from the successes of zenimax. Every elder scroll game created failed to some degree and succeeded in others Im not just picking out skyrim.Lot of games get copied from other sources take Elder scrolls Ultima underworld ring any bells. TES base fantasy setting isn’t original by any means most fantasy as we know it today like it or not originated from J. R. R. Tolkien, that isnt a bad thing.Yes Tes has its own unique lore but the base fantasy originated from Tolkien. Its certainly isn't bad copying DAoC something that wasn’t only great implementation but also wildly succeeded just like Tolkien. Unlike in other games, where everything becomes easy once you get good gear (aka Diablo), the combat scales to be harder and you must either team up with mates or get better gear. If you die, you lose your weapon's durability. You do realise Zenimax is also owned by Bethesda, therefore they had a say in TES Online too?
