Communites in online FPS games...

Has anyone noticed that it's insanely hard to find a person that doesn't call you "haxer i wus wearing armer on me" even though it's possible with a BOOM HEADSHOT... And you eventually get kicked in a few seconds. This only applies to versus ones, Counter Strike, Halo 3 (the worst...) etc.

The Co-Op ones, such as Left 4 Dead, Killing Floor (underrated...) and all that actually have people who are more mature, and don't put the microphone right up to their lips, and scream into constantly scream into it. Co-Op online FPS games are the only ones I consider buying, unless it's something like CoD with amazing single player campaign. :D

What do you think?

Find a popular clan server run by a mature gaming clan that moderate their servers with proper rules and regulations and you'll avoid the majority of this. I only play on one DoD:Source server and it makes it much more enjoyable.

The NoBullSh-trepublic is a good community. www.nobullshitrepublic.com

They have two very good servers, one for normal Counter strike and one for the gun-game mod.

Yeah, CSS is a real pain, and so is Garrys mod. They're both full of litle annoying kids that think they should ALWAYS win.

It depends on what you are playing as well. I remember in Red Faction it was ripe with cheaters and less than desirables, the few good servers were only good when an actual rcon was in the server playing. As for CS and CSS I played for about a week and got sick of all the cheating and smack talk, I stopped playing and never looked back. I played RvS for the longest time and that actually was a good game but it too had it's share of hackers and I-bullies and general butt heads. It was a game that relied heavily on sound and so if you found a server to play in and were on TS or Vent. nobody really talked until the round was over. That took a certain level of maturity. COD4 is a mix and eiehr hit or miss. I find that in COD4 it is the complaining of people dying certain ways that kind of grates on me.

FPS in general create a very competitive following and you would think that people would have the discipline to act in a way that is sporting and not like an ass. However with the wide range of ages, personalities, playing styles and attitudes conflicts and abuse are always there. That is why it takes a long time to find a clan/group that runs a server to your liking or specific tastes but when you do it is well worth the effort you put in to locating them.

I know on our COD4 server there is no swearing, no bunny hopping and you have to be respectful and courteous to the other players. You are warned once and then kicked. If you come back and do it again you are banned. You can join vent and swear all you want as long as you are not disrespectful about it. IE: getting shot and saying something like "you #$%^@#@, that was a nice shot" or whatever. But it is easier to do that in Vent or TS because you can hear the persons tone and mood when they say it and can tell if they are joking.

I would say your best bet is to join the TS or Vent server they have and get to know people. If you like the way they play chances are you will enjoy talking to them as well.

I also strongly agree with you on the co-op thing. If the game is co-op such as Vegas2 or L4D and you are playign with people you know it makes it that much more fun because you need each other to survive and thrive.

I'm surprised you can find a clan that is decent... Now that I think about it, why didn't I look up on Google/some kind of search engine thingy majig on FPS clans?

CSS/CS 1. something is easily the worst out there.

Garry's mod is best played alone. I make dumb contraptions alone, I pose ragdolls in strange poses alone, I get killed alone. People bother trying to kill other players in Garry's mod!? Que amigo?

Bunny hopping? Vent or TS? (TS = Team Server?)

Halo CE (custom addition!) actually has a bit of a decent community, even if you don't go into a clan server... Old games are actually cool.

Also...

In CoD, that perk where you set a bomb/explode when you die is one of the most popular ways of getting kills... Which is why it needs to be removed. If it isn't already.

I sold my 360 to get a uber-computer, most of the games I play on it are also on the computer anyways. I can always just plug in a USB controller thingy anyway.

Bunny hopping = the continuous jumping to avoid getting shot.

Vent = Ventrillo (Voip program for gamers)

TS = Team Speak (Voip program for gamers)

That is called Martyrdom and we leave all perks in the game because we find it separates the people that are there to have fun and those that are looking for upping their stats. Seriously, once your reach Lvl 55 there is no point to a score. So basically the people that come in and play and laugh when they die from last stand or martyrdom stay and the ones that whine abut it usually leave or get kicked for being rude, it actually works out pretty good because you really don't want the latter around anyway.

I don't whine about that martyrdom perk, but when you do get killed people go "HAHA you suck" into their microphones all the time, and their terrible voices hurt my ears.

I just wanted to get it off my chest, really.

Was not pointing fingers just generally saying... Try our server, should be people on this weekend. As for their terrible voices, I don't know what to tell you... don't join their vnet or TS? Or turn them down? Or maybe you are on the wrong TS and Vent. servers? We get rowdy and yell and swear but it is all in fun because we have all been playing with each other for years, pretty much we all know out of respect that if we are in a bad mood we just don't get on thus not ruining the experience for others.

I feel youre pain my friend. I dont own and xbox but a few of my friends do and we would get together and play Halo 3 or Call of Duty together on occasion as a fun little get together. I dont play console games so natually, Im not skilled at console games. So Im always at the bottom of the score board lol. But what does bother me is hos incredibly hostile people get. For instance, I was playing Halo 3 with my buddies, solcial slayer and I got creamed pretty bad, lol it doesnt bother me to lose because its just a game after all lol. But after the match I had like 3 voice messages from people saying "hod bad I suck, and how I should never play again, and how Im garbage". Lol I just wonder why, why is it necessary for people to be like that about a game lol.

Some online RPGs arent as bad. Diablo 2 had a lot of good people who natually would help you if you asked for it. Hellgate London had good players. Battlefield 2142 had nothing but a bunhc of kids who screamed in the thier microphones with their high pitched voices. OOooooohhhhhh man that made me so angry when that did that.

Ive never played WoW but a friend of mine does and the people in that game are freaking mean as hell too. She asked for help killing a monster or something like that and all the people around were just like "pft, you such noob"

Like really what is wrong with people these days, maybe Im just old fashioned.

Don't get me wrong I agree with most of what you guys say. However I believe that the extra effort put into finding good people and places to play really pays off.

As for the console people I really do not know as I don't play a console. Hopefully this will not turn into a Console vs. PC or Young vs. Old discussion. That would not turn out well. I know a lot of young kids play consoles but I also have played some good games with kids who seemed more mature than the adults. And as for WoW that is it's own little world, I have read stories of people getting so involved with WoW that it ruins their life but I guess that could be any game really.

Back to FPS, the very nature is about competition TWL, LOAG, Squad Games to name a few leagues promote heavily the atmosphere of "be the best" unfortunately a lot of times the true aspect of gaming "to have fun" is lost when money and respect are on the line. Fortunately you will hardly if ever run into any league gamers on FPS servers as most of their gaming time has become practice with their squads and there really is not time for pubbing. This leaves you with the people you play with, the people you have to play with but don't want to, the people you play with because you want to and the people you hope get struck by a bus.
