Processor and ram question

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about getting Dragon Age Origins for the PC, but I don't meet the recommended specs for cpu/ram. The recommended CPU is an Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz Processor or equivalent, while I have an Intel® Core2 Extreme CPU X9100 @ 3.06GHz (3.06x2). For the ram the recommended is 2 gigabytes for XP, or 4 gigabytes for Vista. I have 4 gigabytes of ram but am running Vista 32 bit, so it's only 3 gigabytes. Do you really need twice the ram to run it on Vista? When I'm doing absolutely nothing the performance tab under windows task manager shows 1 gigabyte being used.

You'll be fine, it just means you can run everything at high with these values. The game probably has the ability to optimize for a quad core and therefore they say it. The same with memory, the more you have the better, but you'll be perfectly able to run the game at high, max will probably drop the FPS to much though. Vista just requires more ram because of the way the system is build. The 'recommended' just give a slight idea what combo would provide the ability to turn up the sliders above medium.

It's not about initiating the old debate but the whole point in Vista and more yet now with the seven is going from the 32 bits (and its limitations) toward the 64bits realm. But the game should play fine with your specs once you do not try to maximize everything. Some well applied tweaks may enhance things yet more.

Since the game is too new those tweaks are yet to be discovered, keep looking for them.

Yet about the game, it was not launched here although it's already announced for 13 nov country wide, and so that answer is only speculative and based on general experience. And this experience says you will not have performance troubles running this game type with acceptable settings.

Vista is a hog....plain and simple. Games are hogs too, use anywhere from 1.5-2GB of your RAM, so more RAM is always better.

 OK wait here...please clarify...you have a Core 2 Extreme? Just a bit confused because you don't see many people that own a CPU that costs more than the entire computer (those ran around $1200). Wow....6MB cache...godly :D Don't worry about your CPU that's for sure if that's not a typo haha.
