Kuboxy Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I've recently been trying to get back into Skyrim. Problem is, after a clean re-install and complete overhaul of all my mods, I just can't seem to get through the whole modding process again. I'm not patient enough to install them all at once (not recommended anyway). But going 1 by 1 is way too slow What do you guys do whenever you start a new game? Do you remove all mods? And if so, how do you go about re-installing them? I thought about starting with a handful of them (10-15) then add 3 or so every quest or something, but I'm rather curious if other people have other methods that I might like. I know I'm asking something rather selfish, but I'd really love to get back into one of my favorite games
Hyacathusarullistad Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I honestly don't understand the paranoia surrounding installing multiple mods at once. I've got ~150 plugins going on my current playthrough. I installed and activated every single one of them, with the exception of Helgen Reborn (which you can't activate until after you've finished Unbound), before I even hit "New" on the main menu. They've all worked flawlessly from the get-go. If you know what you're installing, follow the instructions - which every modder worth their salt around here is really good about giving when necessary - and use the appropriate tools to sort and maintain your load order then there's absolutely no reason in the world why you can't install all the mods you want, boot up the game, and have everything configured by the time you reach the headsman's block. I've done it for every playthrough since I started modding the game two years ago, and never had any problems that weren't 100% user error.
chanchan05 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 There's no problem installing multiple mods at once. Heck after a clean reinstall I install mods that compose nearly 200plugins at one go. The thing is, those are mods that I DO KNOW WORK TOGETHER with no problem. If it's your first time to mod, that's the only time you go 5 at a time. But after you get your first mod build of mods that play together well, basically you can install all of these in one go. Also, adding 10 15 after every quest isn't a good idea. It's actually best to start with all your mods from the get go (if using Alternate Start, if going vanilla Helgen route, follow Hyac's advice to install but not activate until after Helgen), and do not add or subtract any mods anymore. Updating is fine, but still a potential problem if the number of plugins change (form IDs and stuff), but generally patches can be added and left alone at the bottom, unless they're something like SkyRe patches. If you know the mods you are using and previously worked with them, install all of them then use Tonycubed's 28 step stress test (for step 28 I suggest using Touring Carriages and take the Solitude to Whiterun, then Whiterun to Markarth, then Markarth to Falkreath routes). This was tailored for Sands of Time, but also works well for testing general stability since it takes you to some of the most graphically intensive locations in the game: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1277531-28-step-stress-test/

Use mod organizer. Set up your nexus pw and install it there. Nexus is your friend. :)
modder3434 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 When in doubt, add only weapon / armor mods , resolution and unofficial patches from the get go. After your started (out of Helgen) then if you want install the script mods, animation mods , companion mods, and major quest mods in threes and test as you go. that way if a problem arises you have a good idea of what mod it is or what combination is causing the Skyrim Sorcery. Happy Modding! P.S. Read the description or readme: most mod authors (not the guy who published one mod three years ago) have details regarding any special installation requirements, compatibilities etc, in one or both of these areas.....when in doubt RTFM!!!
Kuboxy Posted April 24, 2014 Author Posted April 24, 2014 Alright, thanks everybody! I'm already after Helgen, so I guess all I have to do is install all the ones I know I'll keep, then go with the flow and try some out every now and then. This should help me a lot!
