Lunarhawk
Dragon Age is really the first game I'm interested in the modding scene of but one thing I have noticed so far is that it seems like all the armor and weapon files upload have near god-like stats compared to in game ones. Now I'm just a simple guy and I do want some fancy looking custom armor and weapons, but I also don't want stuff that's so OP it makes hard feel like easy which is what it seems like all these armor and weapon mods would do with a list of like 6 different attributes on every piece. I mean I've played through the game, I know there are already some in-game items that are OP but they're pretty rare and usually at the end of a quest or quest chain. But I just want some cool looking stuff that pretty much fits in stat wise with the rest of the stuff, not the rare OP items. Why is there almost none of that? JimboUK
I've seen this in the early days of many a game, people mostly playing around and getting used to the tools. Morrowind had it's nuclear fireballs and Oblivion its swords that hit enemies from one side of the map to the other. Give it time and things should improve. For now what about this? make your own in game, I've not tried it yet but it does look good.
Lunarhawk
I saw that earlier and it might be interesting when it gets finished but for now it's too early to tell
Archon3D
Yeah, most games go through this kind of thing. But people get tired of god items eventualy. The point is - when you make a god item you don't have to worry about balancing (well done, Captain Obvious!) and that's exactly what most people don't know how to do/hate doing. I was just about to mention Winter Forge, but jim_uk did that already... The mod is pretty good (great, even), even though it is still in development. You can't create set items and some attributes are missing (nothing too important, I think), but I highly recommend it. It's stable, and I've run into no problems at all with it. leapinglizard
Im also disappointed that the vast majority of new armours and weapons have hugely over powered stats. For me there is no point in downloading and installing them as it makes the game far to easy and boring. If i want a walk in the park, well... i'll get off my butt and go for a walk in the park. So Id like to ask modders to please release your mods with a view to people using them at the beginning or atleast mid game. Im talking about armors that look nice but have the same stats as chain armor for beginning game and around tier 5 stats for mid game. This way people can actually use them in game. There is an awesome opportunity for modders to create some armors more fitting to the female form (but still with protection !) and have the same stats as leather armor / chain that most will use at the beginning the game. if peope find an armor ingame that has better stats then they can upgrade their mod inserted leather armor using winter forge. Its much easierand less annoying for people to take an underpowered armor (for mid/late game) and upgrade it as its almost like a crafting skill and can be roleplayed. Using winter forge to nerf your +30 strength, +20 dex, 50% resistent everything OP armor just seems wrong and isnt fun.
Z3R0B4NG
i guess as long as there are no custom meshes for Weapons and Armor there is not much reason for low/normal powered Weapons because they are allready plenty in the game. I've seen some retextures though that looked pretty good. A Black Templar Armor for example.
Flobulon
I've been trying to include reasonable stats in any items I release, with properties in line with BioWare items. But this issue is why I've been hesitant to download many third-party items.
Ozisl
Yea, most mods are just god hacks, sadly. Cheers to the ones who balance. One thing you can do is take the art and remove the +20 all stats bit.
Kaerar
Basically I look at it as testing out new things. Yes there are god items but most aren't designed for use anyway. Just for a bit of fun (which ironically is short lived due to the weapons). However I have installed a few mods and really liked them. Honour and Betrayal was a great mod (if Betrayal had worked) as the Swords weren't overpowered and fitted my Rogue nicely. I ended up still using the Rose Thorn Dagger (ingame item) to finish the game anyway as a second weapon. I also crafted my own Betrayal ingame eventually as the current one just doesn't appear (even with no other mods active). To me BDA is actually a bit broken and probably should be either lowered in stats and level or raised in stats and level as it's no endgame armour. I use the Fade Armour too as there is no suitable armour for an Arcane Warrior (let alone skills!). I tried out the Bul Kathos weapons but they are severely broken (way too good stat increases) but simulate Diablo quite well. I just got bored of the one hit Darkspawn kills. Also seeing as I managed to get most of my party using Tier 5/6 stuff from about Lothering onwards (no hacks or trainers) I think the tier progression needs to be altered to be level based for some items rather than Stat based. But hey :D
