GamerChas
I want to try one of the new companion mods but I want one that is less sadistic about killing. I play on very hard so I always get Jericho (aka Jerko) as soon as I can, Then I switch to Charon as soon as I can. I use Charon up until I can get Fawkes. But Jericho and Charon drive me crazy with their over eager combat taunts. Jericho is just insane and Charon is not much better. Charon is about the best companion but his "Yea, yea you want some of this..." etc. is too annoying. I have tried all the other vanilla companions, but they are not very good.So I would like a companion as good as Charon but with a much toned down voice acting. I also do not want a way overpowered one either. Any suggestions?
limpey
Abraham Drinkin' is (IMO) a pretty good companion. If you load the mod he just joins you wherever you resume the game after having added him, so you don't have to find him or add him. You can't access his inventory or give him different armor and weapons, but he also doesn't run around engaing everything in combat. He wears a suit and stovepipe hat and carries the 'Lincoln Repeater' rifle and has what seems to be an infinite supply of ammo. Every once in a while he will say, "Why don't you watch where you are going?" when you kick or bump into something. All he really does is shoot at whatever or whomever is attacking you.http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/18486If you play Fallout NV, check out the 'Niner' companion --- he's really a lot of fun and has a sort of interesting backstory... although he does not sound like he's from California like he claims. M48A5
Best companion on the Nexus, Brisa Almodovar http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/14448
JoeAtl
Sydney. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/9320/? Great attitude: do the job, get the caps, get drunk, get laid. Great back story and non-annoying (and sometimes very amusing) comments. Maybe a little too talkative for you.
Jeir
Star Paladin Praetus is the only companion I use unless I have no choice.
7thsealord
I note that a number of companion mods have adjustable settings for various things, such as Bravery / Aggression. Edited October 10, 2014 by 7thsealord
GamerChas
Thanks for the replies. Sorry I took so long to get back to you. I used Brisa for my run-through. She IS amazing. I did not try Praetus or Sydney because they come too late for me. I like to explore 90% of the wasteland before heading into DC and then finding Dad. That way the wasteland is Enclave free for most of the game.
glengolly
Must admit my favourite is Sgt RL-3, if only for his militaristic and anti-communist slogans. They really make me laugh - eg Kill them all and let God sort it out.
Freddish
To use Brisa Almodovar, you have to install FOSE. What is that? The word "beta" in the file kind of puts me off.

FOSE = Fallout Script Extender. Basic link here - http://fose.silverlock.org/ Don't judge because the makers left 'Beta' in the name. It has been around for quite a while, and is absolutely essential for most of the better mods (and many of the not-so-great mods, too).
