Yeah, thanks for setting this up Stampy. I would have if you hadn't before long. :P They had the same problem on the ES forums... only about a billion times worse. ^^;

Here is some very good information for anyone considering upgrading

their video card, and wondering which one to upgrade to.

I know I spent tens of hours searching for info myself, so now I'm summarizing it for you all.

Some of it gets too technical for some, so just skip to the charts, where

it shows the Frames Per Second (FPS) of the various graphics cards.

Here's a review of the EVGA 7900 GT, comparing it to others:

http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/evga_geforce..._gt/index.shtml

and here's the best benchmarks, playing real games, by HardOCP,

and it shows the MINIMUM frames per second also, which is important:

and another good benchmark, playing real games:

and a summary review of the above AnAndTech benchmarks:

I need to choose between two cards;

one is a Radeon 9250 256MB 128-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X made by SAPPHIRE, the other is a Geforce FX5200 128MB 64-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X made by Rosewill.

Both are well within my price range.

any suggestion? I'm still new to Video cards.

The Radeon one, by process of elimination. The FX-series cards below the 5700 or 5900 (I forget which) are not supported, and can not play the game. Even my poor FX5900 can barely run the game with all details off and 800x600 resolution.

My FX5600 with 256onboard can't run it... neither can my computer period. (AMD 2400+, 1gb ram, and the FX5600). SO if you have my system, sorry it would seem you're screwed and out $60 like me until you can upgrade and use the collectors edition that you bought the day it came out :-(

Look on the list of supported cards. You won't find any Radeon 92xx series there. Theta has it running on low settings with a 9600 Pro. That sounds like it's around the minimum ATI card for Oblivion.

You might want to look at the NVidia 7300GS,. It's listed as a low end option in the latest hardware requirements thread in the Elder Scrolls forum. I believe it's in roughly the same price range as the ATI 9250.
