batesmotel34
as for dropping stuff, you have to drag it out of your inventory, holding the mouse button. your inventory automatically closes and you're holding the item. letting go of the mouse button drops it. however, since it holds it at a range, you need room. so you can't be looking down, or have anything right in front of you. just make sure you're looking forward and into an open area. as for bows, if you switch to third person, you'll see they are holding it straight. they put it at an angle for first person, i guess so that it's easier to aim...The easy way to drop stuff from your inventiory is to shift (left) click on it. Took me a while to figure this out too. Since I use my mouse left handed, I ended up remapping my controls to roughly what I use in Morrowind before I started playing so didn't care if the default bindings assumed a QWERTY layout or not. Thanks for the note about the third person animation for bows. I'm pretty sure the first person is indeed for aiming. in real life I've seen modern bows with a sight and those will only work if the bow is held vertically. I'm not sure if medieval longbows had anything similar or not. I haven't gotten to journeyman with bow yet so haven't had a chance to try the telescoping option that journeyman get for bow. I'll probably do that some time this weekend. But then I'm still occasionally finding myself disconcerted by the bow in the left hand after playing the Morrowind animations that all have it in the right. So I'm certainly not complaining about the animations in Oblivion by comparison.
Switch
My first impressions on this one would have to be a resounding "wow" methinks. ^^ It took a little while to get into, but since I've got to the Imperial City it's really grown on me a lot. The dialogue and lip synching is very nice, however I have noticed what people have said about the NPCs having somewhat different voices when saying the generic hellos and goodbyes than they do when they speak with you, which is a little odd. I've had to scale the graphics back a bit but it still runs VERY well. Probably better than I expected, really. Load times are negligable compared to a lot of games. There's only one thing on the graphical front I can't seem to fix: the distant terrain. The textures on the most distant terrain are ridiculously blurred and ugly looking, as if they're set to below minimum for some odd reason. It doesn't look right, and even on max settings I can't seem to fix it. So, I assume it's some sort of glitch. Does anyone else get this? The soundtrack seems very atmospheric, and I've enjoyed poking around part of the Imperial City. Haggle and personality mini-games are nice, and are definitely a darn sight more challenging and far less exploitable than the Morrowind system, which I like. Enemy A.I. is definitely very nice, I was standing on a bridge over the top of some goblins, Flared one in the back, and both then proceeded around about 2-3 corners, and up a set of stairs, up to the bridge where I was. Pretty damn good pathfinding there. Apart from that I haven't had the chance to explore much. ^^ Will hopefully set up a screenie thread soon. Adras
Orc voices: If you lived on the Imperial continent for most of your natural life don't you think you too would speak like them? I.e. people who move to different countries and come back with 'new' accents. Feasible yes? sure, makes sense. but they still don't sound like the orcs i remember from my chidhood :P what are orcs supposed to sound like any hoo? The only thing about that is that the orc's might talk like the imperials, but they should not sound the same. Their voices should be a bit lower and gruffer. You may move to England from the US and learn to talk like the English, but if you were a bass singer in the US, then you will still be a bass singer in England. I do agree that their voices should be a little different. The person who did the orcs in Morrowind did a pretty good job.

jen2ci
bad part of my impression:- very sloooowwww levelup.......... (after Morrowind)- ranged fireball (flare) is too powerful. One shot or two, and one die.good part?- everything :P
Stampede
bad part of my impression:- very sloooowwww levelup.......... (after Morrowind)- ranged fireball (flare) is too powerful. One shot or two, and one die.good part?- everything :P Actually, the slow level up is only for about the first level or so. My warrior orc has been getting stronger and stronger as I play....but maybe that's because I don't take no cr*p from no stinking Daedra.
Du Lac
I was pretty amazed at the graphics. I thought they did a good job with the effects too(shaders, particles, and models used in em). I like the alchemy crafting thing. I was disaponted with the lack of monsters, no hotkeys for spells(to my knowledge), crappy ui, and the lack of dynamic textures + frags when spells/swords hit objects/walls/npcs. I pretty much don't like the gameplay unmodded. I plan to mod some things to make it more enjoyable. I have more things I dislike but rather not complain too much. Mod wise I have only tried the level design tool and enjoy that. I am a 3d modeler so I will be disappointed if we do not get an exporter. I am patient but would like to know from beth if we will get one asap.
edstamos1
Where can i get the official bethesda mods. I really need the mod that lets you train till level one hundred because i didnt know that when you reach higher levels you can actually take the armor from the deadra's in oblivion so i chose light armor. I like heavy armor better and want to raise my heavy armor rating quickly plz respond asap and thanx for the help. There are none yet, and I doubt they'll be releasing hundreds of mods that do little things like that - that's the realm of player mods. Bethesda will add things like story arcs, new npcs, new armor/weapons, perhaps new factions and monsters, and perhaps bugfixes. However, I doubt they'll release cheat-type mods (although I could be wrong). You're going to have to tough it out for the time being, since there are no official mods yet. I don't know how to get them with the XBox version - for PC they'll be available from the official site. I figured there might be some built in way of accessing them on the XBox version... Du Lac
Oh, I just found out there are hotkeys :) . That's good news. Maybe I can write a script for them so they cast when I press the hotkey.
