Well , since my pc's power source got burned and my mothboard got a short-circuit i managed to get my hands on an old notebook

Pentium III 878 Mhz

128 mb ram

what os do you recommend ?

I'd say a Win 98 would do but does it recognise the NTFS file format ?

Thank you

It 'should' run on XP, esp if you tweak it out a bit.. With win98 you will be limited in what apps/games you can run, most modern software will prolly not even run :/ Try XP, if ya can grab more system memory.. Any idea what type of video card it has?

it runs XP but very very slow.

i think it havs andATI Rage 8 mb if i'm right.

Basically i want to use it for pdfs doc , messenger , and to use USB 2.0.

98 supports NTFS formated partitions >?

also , i'd like to see some linux os suggestions too ^_^.

Thanks

Win98 won't be able to read NTFS and XP will run very slowly. Windows 2000 is a little lighter than XP and might run better, worth looking at Ubuntu or something similar also.

wow that is really old im guessing it was made in 1998???, well i would go with 2000 not ME, and xp would be to much to bear on that old thing :)

XP would smack that thing back and forth and call it names :P You need atleast 256MB for XP otherwise it's a huge drag and not worth it. Win98 would run fine on it, Ubuntu would be even better.

If you just want it for documents and messenger then you might as well put Ubuntu on there with Open Office and Pidgin, at least that is up to date. I shudder to think how many holes Windows 98 has in it now.

yes \ 's too bad that they never finished win98

i tested puppy linux , very cute , but it doesn't autodetect my internet connection

i managed to run win xp sp 3 with Iexplorer 8 and windows media player 9 +Y!Mess 8 all running at an almost acceptable speed  reminds me of my 586 computer.

pclinuxos runs extremely slow from cd ,worse than xp..

if you know a small linux os which can autodetect my internet connection would be awesome , thanks :)
