THIRTY-ONE

THE OTHER BOBBY IN TWINHIGH TERRITORY

The female Bobby ran towards the great main gate of the settlement of Twinhigh with her companions, both human and robotic. The group moved steadily as they had rested after yet one more fight with a band of shadow-possessed humans. It was morning now, growing lighter with sunshine, and they had gotten through what had turned out to be a difficult number of days.

A number of elementors of Light, Life and Blue-Ice followed them along with so called Forgaven elementors of physical, psychic or spiritual emphasis. Such had arisen from some of the damned to fight others of the damned.

Other survivors from the clusterfarm, along more they had found on their way to Twinhigh, had been sent to NexiSanctuary.

Even as Bobby opened a smaller door they could hear the muffled sound of gunfire. Bobby led her people into the Free Trade Sector of the big settlement and they found themselves in a big open dirt floored courtyard, a welcoming area for newcomers come to trade. There were people moving around, buildings, tents, horses, vehicles, some robots and more people. The newcomers flowed into the courtyard as Bobby held up her hands to indicate that they came in peace.

It was not a normal trading, living scene but a community under siege. A series of tents to one side had extended out from a clinic and the extended clinic was serving a fair few wounded folk. Armed guards came forward to meet them but for some reason seemed to know they were both coming and that they were allies. They were soon met by some VIPs of the FTS.

Sheriff Anne Oakley was in metal armour and had two big magnum revolver pistols holstered at her hips. Otherwise she was dressed as a cowgirl. There was something special about her and Bobby hugged her. This was one of Bobby’s great plus grandchildren and she had special abilities and enhancements to prove it. She was not only beautiful but she kind of looked like Bobby herself.

Sisters of Charity were there in normal Wastelander gear but they had Goodwill Mercenaries protecting them and their stuff. The Goodwill Mercenaries Co-Op only served such as the Sisterhood. Doc Holiday, gunfighter and doctor, plus notorious dentist, worked with the Sisterhood and he came to the meeting along with the local Mother of Charity and her mercenary bodyguard.

Others came such as the new mayor of the FTS, the head of the FTS militia and the most influential FTS merchant. Information was exchanged.

Bobby sat at the big old table and frowned softly. “There are many innocents and almost innocents trapped in the main part of the settlement. One way out is what one can call the NexiSanctuary.”

The others listened and plans were formed even as the muffled noise of conflict continued. Many folks from the FTS would leave first; going would be such as children, some parents, pets, some robots and other resources. The gateway had to be opened soon that would take them to the Quarantine Zone of the sanctuary.

Bobby went with Sheriff Anne Oakley to the outskirts of the FTS. The inner wall of the settlement overlooking the FTS was, unfortunately, dominated by the Ice-Eye forces. The corrupt Mayor Riddle and his cronies were slaughtered, enslaved or now shadow-possessed. DaDoreenme now, apparently, controlled the rest of the settlement. Yet gunfire could be heard drifting from the main settlement, from at least two or even three different places.

Bobby looked up at the armed thugs on top of the wall and a few Ice-Eyes. Then she took her rifle and fired rapidly. Each time she fired an enemy fell, including the Ice-Eyes. Then she gave the signal. The enemy had become over confident and grapples were shot up over the battlements.

Bobby and Anne leapt up and grabbed onto grapple held ropes, climbing swiftly up the wall. Others quickly followed and then they were fighting on the battlements. Bobby used the butt of her rifle to knock a murderous thug off the wall, whirled and fired two bullets into a very fast moving Ice-Eye killer, a hybrid demon-human entity. The human like creature died as the bullets exploded in his solar plexus, one of the truly vulnerable points of such harder to kill creatures.

Anne grabbed a heavy machinegun on a swivel, a Browning M2, turned it about and began firing 12.7mm bullets down at a group of surprised enemies. Five were blasted down but others escaped. Soon the enemy forces would storm towards the wall but that is what Bobby wanted them to do for, ultimately, the attack on the wall was a diversion.

For she had reached out her mind and found that a large force was still fighting in the surprisingly well fortified Church of Atom building. They were of course being attacked by DaDoreenme and her monstrous hybrids, brutal Shardra Mercenaries, fighting robots and more of her expendable thug soldiers. They were largely followers of the Church of Atom and one eccentric but brave Confessor Joseph but they fought hard against shadow demonic forces. In the unsettling of the balance of forces, of the laws of nature, the Priests of Atom were gaining strange new powers and were using them to burn their unholy enemies. This fighting group and two other, smaller, ones had more chance with the decoying action at the wall drawing away many enemy forces.

The top of one of the big towers was occupied by a mishmash of the old sheriff and his people and many other settlers along with some mercs who were old foes of the Shardra Mercenaries. It was odd to think that there could be any mercenaries with worse reputations than the Talon people but the Shardra were one of them; for the Shardra were all willingly possessed of darkness. Amongst the resistance in the top of the Western Tower were Talon Mercenaries.

The other group were moving through a series of catacombs beneath the settlement, copies of ancient European catacombs, but complete with some hidden advanced features. This other group were doing hit and run trickery; so far they had survived but the enemy was slowly closing in on them.

Bobby decided that firstly she would try to reach the moving group in the catacombs by finding a way down into the amazing grand maze. Which was where the elementors, especially the Light Elementors, would come in very handy.
