Domhnall
~ Year or so ago I was coming here to discuss the Middle Earth Mod, which was abandoned. Are those guys still around, and what big mod are they doing instead?
ThetaOrionis01
Some of us are still around, yes. As for any projects some of us may or may not have planned, lack of a .nif exporter and the other restrictions placed on modding (animations, skills) are problems which need to be addressed before any large project could get off the ground. I had a look around the construction set yesterday - compared to Morrowind it's a lot more complex, and it'll be a fairly steep learning curve to find my way around that. Just how large do you mean? If there's one thing I've learnt from working on Iredior and MEMod it's that it's better to start small and stand a chance of completing it rather than planning something grandiose which requires more resources and time than you have. Domhnall
Well, I remember loving all I heard about the old project. Not just the Middle Eart aspect of it (which seemed to be purist) but that the world would be realistic. I, as many others, would love work done with the OBL game that pushes Realism and Restraint as far as possible. I enjoy a much more “tame” Medieval Fantasy world where magic is hard to find. I loathe seeing magic shops in cities. I feel that a magic sword or shield is truly diminished when it’s common. As to the ‘Why’ of realism, I posted an essay in the Debates section. http://forum.gamingsource.net/index.php?showtopic=17699 I appreciate how time consuming projects like the ME-MOD are, but I hope that some serious work is done by the community that has some of the same goals as the ME-MOD. ThetaOrionis01
In addition to the aforementioned problems - like the lack of a .nif exporter - there is also the EULA to consider. Have you had a look at it? I don't think it does much to encourage people to devote lots of time and effort to creating large mods. Whether it will actually put people off remains to be seen. Peregrine
In addition to the aforementioned problems - like the lack of a .nif exporter - there is also the EULA to consider. Have you had a look at it? I haven't, and I don't really speak lawyer-ish even if I had... is there something unusual about Oblivion's EULA that restricts modding? Domhnall
Didn't someone on the official site make a home spun NIF exporter? I've searched around a bit on the official site. Do you have a link to (the troubling parts of) their EULA?
