Lore Questions

Hey all. I had some questions regarding the Lore of Skyrim and the TES World in general. I'm posting here, as answers may have spoilers.

1. Exactly how many years equals an Era, or is it different for each one?

2. Has Gaiden Shinji been in any of the games? If yes, what race was he?

3. Did the events of Daggerfall actually occur? I vaguely recall someone telling me that "All of the Endings happened, but none of them happened". Anyone care to elaborate?

4. By the time Skyrim happens, the Dark Brotherhood is almost nonexistent. What caused this?

5. Was Jagar Tharn actually killed, or did something different happen to him after his apparent defeat at the hands of the Protagonist of Arena?

1. An Era does not have a definite set of years. It usually ends when a significant event occurs. The Second Era ended once Tiber Septim united all of Tamriel under his banner, after thousands of years from the end of the First Era but the Third Era ended after the Septim Dynasty ended after about 700 years.

2. No, he has not. No idea what race he was.

3. Yes, all endings of Daggerfall occurred. Because of the nature of the Numidium and the influence of the Aedra, all endings occurred.

4. Mostly due to the Thalmor's war with the Empire. It diminished the Dark Brotherhood across the continent. This is explained in Cicero's journals.

5. Yes, he was killed and his soul probably has been taken by Mehrunes Dagon.

These two links might give you a bit more info on the subject, but basically, yes, they all happened at once. This caused quite a bit of strain on time and reality, as well as the mind of many a historian, and goes to show that the concept of time as we understand it is far different to how it is on Mundus.

Edit: Also, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dragon_Break might give some insight on the nature of the Warp in the West, and why history on Nirn may not quite be as linear as you think...

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect when actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's actually big ball. Of wibbly wobbly... timey wimey... stuff."
