wendelgrey
I opened this account years ago when I primarily used two names online: greylocke and alphaniner. I usually used the former for fantasy themed venues and the latter everywhere else. Also, 'Wendel Greylocke' was my usual fantasy role playing full name. I don't know why I chose to go with 'wendelgrey' for this account; probably greylocke was taken and I was too lazy to use wendelgreylocke. Anyway, now I generally go by alphaniner everywhere. Since I've released a mod (albeit a very simple one for now) I'd like to try and bring this account into the fold by changing my username to alphaniner. Google pulled up some old posts indicating this was allowed at some point, and it doesn't look like alphaniner is taken. If it is, I would like to see if variations like alpha_niner etc. are available. Thank you for your consideration.
Thandal
We don't do name changes except in some very extreme cases. (The only one I know about involved on-line stalking and RL threats.) See any one of the dozens of similar topics in this forum for more information: Changing usernameChanging Names?Change username? I could continue, but you get the idea. wendelgrey
For the record this is the post I found with Google. It looks a couple users got a positive response to their requests, but I guess things have changed. Thanks for the quick response anyway. Thandal
I didn't mean to imply that it never happens. I meant that it we don't do it as a matter of policy and that it requires special circumstances to even be considered. Note the unsympathetic response to the second poster in the topic you cited. "I don't like the name I chose years ago and with which there is already content associated here on the Nexus.", is not an argument in favour of making a change. In fact, quite the contrary. The level of manual effort required is truly extraordinary. If the I.P. Boards software had a built-in mechanism for doing this, we'd be happy to activate it. Sadly, it does not. wendelgrey
If there's any significant effort involved, I understand the policy and accept the refusal. I assumed it would be easy, because I don't see any reason why the software shouldn't make it easy. What about creating a new account and having this one closed? Obviously I would have to do something about my uploaded mod. But that aside, would moving to a new account be discouraged? It looks like the second poster got his name changed though. He's not 'Archangle' anymore. ;) Anyway, thanks again.
AaronOfMpls
As far as I know, you can have this account closed and a new one opened. But, you'd lose any stats associated with this account. Your mod would probably lose its stats, too, if you removed it and re-uploaded it on a new account.
Thandal
<snip>It looks like the second poster got his name changed though. He's not 'Archangle' anymore. Anyway, thanks again. True, but 'imarchangel' had no content (uploads, posts, etc.) or stats that would have to be manually migrated. It was essentially a brand new account. :geek:
wendelgrey
I see you used your super mod powers there. ;) Anyway, I've thought it over quite a bit and I'm going to move to a new account. I only uploaded the mod when I did because that thread gave me the impression a username change would be no problem. That's on me though, it's not meant as a complaint. It would just bug the heck out of me if I didn't do it. I've updated my mod description to indicate my intentions. Hopefully it's ok to leave it up for a few days for the sake of those who already downloaded it. Ideally I'd like to change the name of the original so I can reuse the name for the new upload if that's possible, and have the old one point to the new one for a few days before I delete it and then have this account closed. Is that acceptable? Edit: grr, my posts keep getting collapsed into a single paragraph. Edited June 26, 2014 by wendelgrey
TheVampireDante
Just to note: There is only two people on the staff roster that actually have the ability to change* an account username - those two being Dark0ne, and myself. So there has to be very good reason reason for it. * Change without creating a new account.
