Datafile mod activation help

Well i read through 3 pages of FAQs and i didnt find anything on this matter and after searching google i still wasnt able to find anything regarding the issue im having.

So hopefully some one here might know what im talking about and may be able to provide me with some assistance.

I just recently got back into fallout 3. I couldnt remember how to install the mods since its been a while that ive had to, so i read and watched the vids on youtube and on this *install guide* on the forms. After getting both the FOMM and Activeinvalidation mods and following everything exactly as stated i ran into a road block.

I clicked the boxes to activate the mod i wanted in Fomm and when i clicked the mod in the Data file ( ran fallout 3, Data file on the main menu b4 the game menu) i clicked the mod i wanted to turn on (alexscopian.esp) then clicked ok and hit play.. Upon reaching the game menu i clicked continue game and once i entered the game there was no change. So i quit and re did the whole process but after clicking ok on the Main menu (not game menu) i rechecked the data files to make sure it had actually checked off but it hadnt. So i tried it with another mod. And again the same thing. They show up in Fomm and in the Data File but they dont stay checked after i hit *Ok*

So anyone know what im doin wrong or havent installed properly..?

Thanks guys.. Really appreciate any help you can give.

Well, I might be misunderstanding things here, but you don't need to activate the mod under Data Files if you already did so using FOMM. You should just launch the game from the Mod Manager after you selected (activated) your mods.

It's right and should be even expanded to avoid at all using the FalloutLauncher.exe and start the game directly by the Fallout3.exe. That quickens things and avoid the unnecessary window once the first configuration is done.

Notice that if the OP uses FOSE (and of course it makes sense only if mods that depends on FOSE is used) the game should be started from it (Fose_Loader.exe) and "never" anymore directly, since this may create severe savegame problems.

That said, it means too than since FOMM does the same job than the "data files" option from the original launcher (and much better), and since the last may cause incoherences it should not be used anymore.

It might also matter where exactly you have your game installed if I understand to right. If it is installed to the default "Program Files" and you are running Windows Vista or 7 then you may have run afoul of the Windows security fence. You would have to run the game as Administrator, deactivate the security settings (not a good idea), or ideally reinstall your game directly to the C:\ drive.
